| Treat your yard where the puppy runs and plays with pet safe ant granules....I use a broadcast granule that is pet safe after 24 hours. Ant free yard and no problem with my dogs! A lady I sold a puppy to several years ago, put her baby out in her back yard, unsupervised....baby got into an ant bed, and by the time the lady got back out to check on her puppy, she was almost lifeless, lying on top of the ant hill, completely covered in ants...rushed the baby to the vet, did CPR on the way to the vet, almost lost that puppy from massive, massive ant stings, anaphylactic shock, and her chemistries are STILL out of the normal range from the massive ant poison that baby received almost 10 years ago.... You were lucky you did not experience an issue with those ants....not a simple, non dangerous little thing to address in passing....those ants can kill your puppy if baby is stung by enough of them at once. |

| Last summer Piper was bit on hind leg/foot by an ant (I pulled it off). Piper wouldn't put her leg down and kept stopping to bite and lick at her foot--it was obvious she was in pain. I carried her the few blocks home where I immediately rinsed her foot with warm water, but then she started trembling and shivering-- which thankfully subsided after 1/2 hr. And that was one random ant bite (probably a fire ant). We never take that shortcut anymore...You must remember that these guys are just little-little and just don't have the capacity to handle things larger dogs can, i.e. ant bites, bee stings, etc. I'm glad your little one came through her ordeal with flying colors! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Please make SURE you have emergency Benadryl on hand AND that you know the dose to give her - bc if she was to get stung all over by a whole bunch of fire ants, it could be very dangerous. After bites occur, give Benadryl.

| Wylie's Mom That's great advice! As a point of reference, would I be able to know what the dose is you give to your little one and also how much he weighs?

| I'm with you, Canana. Not only the dosage per pound, but how do you know when you should give your pup Benadryl? I mean, what are the signs that tell you a dose of Benadryl is necessary? Thank you for this important information, Wylie's Mom! |
