				 | Staying home with Yorkie after spaying ? Please tell me your experiences! So nervous about getting my Yorkie Bella spayed. Did you stay home with your Yorkie for a couple days after surgery? Should I have any special supplies available ? |

				 | Hey your really close to me . You will need a cone or baby onesie to keep her from licking and pain meds from the doctor. Callie my girl was very out of it the night of her spay would not eat or anything but was better with that the next day. It's best to keep them from jumping and running until their incision is healed or it could rip open. I would also bath her the day before because it will be a couple weeks before you can bathe her again. It's really very safe if they do the pre surgery blood work and follow the proper protocol.

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would stay home at least the 1st day. ***Make sure you come home w/ pain meds AND a pain plan for when/if pain is not being controlled w/ what was given.

				 | I just had my Layla spayed on Mon. I was scared to death, as my baby is 6 months weighing 1.9lbs she stayed over night I picked her up Tues. Morning to bring her home, they gave me a cone but it's way to big for her so I'm wearing a shirt on her, she don't seem to be in pain, I do have pain meds to give her once a day she has been sleeping alot, but she isn't eating as much as usual so I'm giving her dr. Miller's to keep her surgar up!! Prayers for your baby . |

				 | Other than some pains meds and a onesie, I didn't really need any extra special supplies but then again.....my little one was ready to play only a few hours after surgery. I had to keep her confined to her ex pen for a few days though but in all honesty, except for the stitches......I couldn't tell that she had surgery, she certainly wasn't acting like she just came out of surgery only a few hours earlier. In fact all of my pets were back to normal within a day or too. I scheduled their spays on a Friday so that way I had all weekend to monitor them. The only thing I noticed was it may take them a few days to start pooping again but other than that.....no significant side effects. |

				 | I was very worried for my Casie who was spayed at 8 months, weighing just under 4lbs. I was with her all day the first day, but she had passed out in her crate and didn't move an inch that first day. I used a soft cone rather than the hard cone, but I don't think I actually needed it since I didn't see her lick herself (used it just in case though to prevent infection). I bought some newborn (human baby) onsies at Walmart (3 for $8) which worked great! There are buttons which perfectly wrap about the dog tail. I also agree to bathe her before surgery. Casie got so dirty over the next two weeks and I couldn't wait to bathe her! By the end of two weeks, her incision had nicely healed and I got her nice and cleaned up Make sure you check the incision daily to make sure it looks okay (I took pictures to keep track just in case it looked worse and I couldn't remember). The second day I had to go to work, but I used this app called Presence (Presence) to monitor her in the crate from work. It worked out great - she was just sleeping the entire day. By the time I got home, she was back to her regular self and was wanting to play and had a great appetite. Hardest part was keeping her from being active!

| Senior Yorkie Talker | Fortunatley I am with Chloe all the time, I would definately stay with her for a couple of days. Chloe was very good after her spay, but keep her very calm no running or jumping, I put pee pads down cause I didn't want her going outside, mostly her cone was off, but when I went to bed I put the cone on until I woke up, just incase in the night she would get at the stitches, but I don't think she ever did, also make sure the area does not get wet, and from what I remember no bathing for 3 weeks. Lots of hugs and kisses to your baby I'm sure she'll be fine. |
