I don't titer and don't think it is reliable enough to waste my money on it. I also do not have the option in my state where there is no medical exemption. So even the dog with the 5 generic problems including the two brain problems had his rabies shot recently. I don't think at all about your choices - I believe you do what you see fit for your dogs and the locale they live in. I believe that you provide the best health care that you see necessary.

How ever my vets disagree with your vets in terms of titering - which I do understand is a controversial issue. And there is evidenced based research that shows DOI many years beyond 3yr vaccine immunity still exists ref Rabies Challenge fund.

And finally in the terms of Zoey and what you term the heartworm debacle - when will you ever let that go?? My husband and I made a mistake. But we sought health care after btw her annual physical and blood exams evidenced the problem and spent the money and time to treat her for this. Just like a mere 4 months later we spent a lot more money and time to treat her for cancer. So let it go !!!! Heartworm did not kill her cancer did. That thread is on here as well.

Shelters like that don't work with rescues. They made it clear from the beginning they were doing all of this themselves. I checked it out.

So you follow the advice of a vet who recognizes that titers are bogus. I see a huge problem with that and with the vet handing out advice.

Please just stop Gemy. I made a general statement ABOUT THE GUY whose dogs were taken.

I disagree with you and I've already said why. You always have to just go on and on. I don't really know why you're questioning what I do with my dogs. I could care less if you approve of my actions or opinions. As for your heartworm comments maybe you should recall that were the first one to come bopping along and somehow ludicrously suggest that neutering my young puppy led to his CCL tear 12 years later even though he jumped off a bed onto a 100 year old hardwood oak floor.

I don't want to harp on this because that would be unfair. But you brought t up...and to be honest, I don't understand the mistake in the first place. You go to the lake in the summer. I live in a similar climate and there are mosquitos near lakes. I give Hw meds in snowstorms when temps are below zero! I have never missed a pill in 16 years and I won't unless I'm dead or incapacitated. Maybe Zoey died from the weakness on her system from the heartworm infestation and subsequent chemotherapy and arsenic to treat it. Sounds like a setting for cancer to run rampant. Even after this horrific experience, you play with titers and other shortcuts! Neglect in a legal sense is different from my opinions. The more I think about what I think neglect is, the more I broaden my view of it. Standards of care and evidence based practices are the fallback for me, and for my amazing vets. I wouldn't risk my dogs' lives on anything less and I don't think other people should. That's really it.

There are certain posts I can't bare to read on social media...
So many people out there just 'want a cute puppy' without doing their research, not realizing how much it'll cost, and not knowing it's a lifetime commitment. The more ignorant people there are wanting puppies and ignorant people selling puppies, the more abandoned dogs there are on the streets.

And then, I recently discovered how many Instagram accounts there are of backyard breeders selling teacup puppies that look very distorted due to being bred into micro teacup sizes. And then...to read the people's comments on how cute they are and that they all want one. It's sad...Can't read it.

Well, according to the South Mississippi Humane Society's Facebook page, all 18 were adopted in 90 minutes!! Unbelievable. They said there was a line out the door. So much for vetting. At least at our local animal shelter, you have a pre-registration form and a two day waiting period before adopting any animal. They do somewhat vet people.

It's all so sad. We can only pray the people who got them will treat them well.
