| Need Help My chewie is eating, playing, going potty on the pad inside and outside. The problem is, since the second day, she won't drink from a bowl. I FINALLY got her to drink- even after the suggestions from her trainer to just leave water, with low sodium chicken broth, and my husband decided to mix mostly water with it, and she is now refusing THAT. I am tired and scared. I have tried four different bowls, that little water bottle that rabbits drink out of. I switched to wet food BECAUSE she wasn't drinking. She's peeing and pooping, but I know it's not NEARLY enough. I really need some suggestions. |

How about purified/filtered water instead of tap water? Was Chewie on dry kibble prior to wet food? I know that after Scottie eats his kibble, he must drink water ...30 min to 1 hr later because he's dying of thirst. Hopefully it's not a health-related issue. Will leave others with more experience to comment on that..

| When you said you tried 4 different bowls, I assume you mean different materials? Stainless steel, plastic, ceramic, etc.. Magnus prefers fresh cold water so he'll wait for it when he's not very thirsty. Also, one of my friend's pup won't drink water when he's outside unless it's "pouring". So my friend would cup her hand while pouring the water out of the bottle. I did hear some dogs love drinking "fresh moving water". Maybe if this method works, you can get her a water fountain. |

| As I've said before, my Zeusy is very persnickety about smell (hates the smell of canned food and won't eat it). He WILL NOT drink the tap water where I live (I can smell the chlorine and don't drink it either), so he is a water snob and gets bottled water. It took me awhile to figure out his problem. He was trying to drink my bottled water while he was in my lap. I have him some of it in his bowl, and he guzzled it. Like Magnus, my Zeusy prefers refrigerator cold bottled water. He will drink it at room temperature, but prefers the cold. If you try all the tricks and the vet can't find anything wrong, you may try one of the bottle feeders where they "lick" the water out of the bottle. Good luck! |

update: I am going to try your suggestion with the dry food to the letter. I tried her royal canin today at dinner in anticipation of this. I think you're REALLY on to something and I can't thank you enough. She did some lapping up and I'm hoping that the cold water in the bowl in a few minutes will encourage her to drink. I'll give you an update after he breakfast tomorrow. | |
