Omgoodness you come up with some original ideas!!!!! :D
I can just see Charlie in a Harley, LOL. The.mini horse or goat isn't a bad idea but to be acceptable it would probably have to be a registered service animal for their neeeeeeeeborhood.
I did the thundershirt for Buddybear and all I can say is it was excellent for absorbing the pee!

If you ever come up with the solution please post and give me the secret.:aimeeyork

Lol!! This cracked me up! I second the traveling companion, imagine Charlie (which is adorable) saddled up on a goat :D!

In ALL seriousness, I live where a huge Harley rally comes every year in May. Without fail every year a man rides in with his Yorkie on the bike with him (no kidding) I have seen the Yorkie riding in a sling across the mans chest, and I have seen him tethered somehow on the seat/tank area sitting in front of the man! Mind you there are literally thousands of bikes that come through, but there is no mistaking the man with the Yorkie, lone rider, blinged out bike, rough looking, big as a barrell man with this cute Yorkie with a Harley shirt and goggles :D I will try my best to get pics of it this year, it's too funny!

We still hold out hope for down the road though...

Reading your siggie, and I JUST figured it out!!

You fairly recently acquired a fox, badger or rat living in your car and Charlie can hear it best at intersections and parking lots. He is just doing his job DAD!!!

Get an exterminator for the car and your problem will be solved. On the very unlikely chance that does not solve your issue, try a medium or an exorcism ......................................... no not for Charlie silly, the car!!

Oh!!!! Now you are just being ridiculous.

We all know that goats simply cannot be service animals since they would eat the leash and harness and the seat belt and part, if not all, the car back seat and the owner's shoe laces and the owner's shoes and the tires on the shopping cart and maybe even the tires on the car.

STOP being soooooo silly!!

Attachment 409089Well, a member PM'd me and said to try putting Charlie in a soft "crate" and see what happens. We just happen to have a traveler with one screened opening so we put him on the floor of our Van with the screen pointing forward so he could at least see the console and the wife could put her hand on the screen and talk to him. Well gang - it worked! NOT! It worked right up until I put on my turn signal to turn at an intersection and then it got so bad - I was getting dizzy! Turned around and left Charlie at home. Like my granddaughter says - Oh Well!:(

By any chance did someone suggest (sorry, I'm too lazy to read back all the many pages/posts :p) that you keep him in some kind of comfy carrier/crate and then stuff his face with treats, before he has a chance to even make a growl or sound, when you approach an intersection or parking lots? Maybe first trying this during a 2 minute car ride and then incrementally longer rides? Obviously, not giving him treats as soon as he makes as much as a peep, and go straight home.

Attachment 409103Based on his performance so far - I don't have enough treats to try that! :)

Does Charlie try to go with you when you leave? How is that handsome little boy when you return from outings? This, too, may have already been suggested, but what about short trips around the neighborhood and such? Is he comfortable with those car rides? I tell ya, he is as difficult to figure out as he is cute--and that's extreme! We just gotta get him right because he really is too much of a character not to show off and too cute not to be exposed to and adored by the masses~~really-truly.

Attachment 409110Tried that - absolutely no difference whether we have been in the car for a few minutes or a few hours. Same thing - pulling into any type of parking lot he goes crazy, making turns - he goes crazy.

Attachment 409110Yes, he has no problem being placed in his car seat or even holding him - same thing on turns, parking lots, driveway, etc. Otherwise, he just sits and watches the world go bed - totally content. We are just hoping one day it will all stop. In the meantime - no more car rides unless we are going to the Vet, Groomer, etc.

I figured it out!!!!!!!!!!! STOP using the turn signal----------that clicking noise is sending him bonkers. So in all sorts of weather you must drive with the window down so your arm can be the indicator.:D

Attachment 409115Well, actually tried that and ole Charlie figured out the movement of the Van in a turn and went right back at it. My only option is to always drive straight and never pull into a parking lot. :) Unfortunately, Charlie will probably figure out the feel of the car when you shut off the engine! :)

Attachment 409146Update time! Took ole Charlie to the vet about his baby teeth. Previously, the vet said wait until he is one year old and they will extract his baby teeth. The vet (office has 3 vets) said he has never seen a Yorkie with so many baby teeth! Yea, Charlie strikes again! :) His 1st Birthday will be spent at the Vet Hospital having his baby teeth extracted.

Oh yea, Charlie is completely paper trained here in PA. However, when we took him to Florida he flat out refused to use the paper! I went to the expense of replicating the exact same setup (crate, paper, etc.) but he knew it wasn't the same. :) He simply wouldn't use it. He would poop just outside the setup and that wasn't going to fly. So I took him outside and he did his thing. He is pretty regular so it wasn't a real issue other then he refused to go potty IF it was raining. Yes, I had to hold an umbrella over him in order for the King to go! Did that for 6 weeks - no problem. OMG - what have we created! :) Anyway, I was concerned about having to take him out in the cold weather in PA considering he refused to use paper in Florida. We returned to a bunch of snow and ice cold weather - what was I going to do now. Well, that little turkey went right over to his paper and did his thing - no problem! This dog is killing me! :)

We would zipper it up when we get out of the car (he has a hole to stick his head out) of and screens all the way around - no problem.

Now, he is fine (in his carrying case) until we pull out of the garage. All of a sudden he goes nuts just about jumping out of the carrying case. I tried holding him but can’t stop this behavior. It is though he sees a ghost! He barks, screams and scares us - we have tried to quiet him down without success. He gets so worked up that we are afraid he will nip us - his legs going 100 miles an hour, etc. If we can get him in the store - he quiets down completely - always loved going shopping with us. It all started recently when he would know we were going to stop the car to go into the store - he would go nuts until we got him into the store. Now – he just won’t stop the moment he gets in the car - we simply don’t know what to do and hoping that someone has gone through this. We take trips and this just isn’t going to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yupper, I have been going through this with Beanie since last year. I have a little bucket car seat that hooks over the headrest that she sits in. She decided last year that she was going to start barking at dogs when she saw them. She actually broke 3 of the car seats because she jumped around so much. THIS year, she has decided that she does not like anything that juts out from a building, like a pipe or a chimney, along with trash bags in front of buildings. She also sometimes thinks that a person holding a child's hand is actually a person walking a dog. OHMYGOD. She does this along with barking like the Tasmanian Devil when she sees a dog when I am walking her. I tried everything to curb it. The First Alert Bark Genie (that worked like a charm for about 6 months), this thing that shot out a burst of air (that worked for about a month), I have tried squirt bottles and positive reinforcement (making her sit and giving her a small piece of a cookie when she didn't bark), NOTHING has worked. I end up picking her up when we are walking and just removing her from being around any dog, all the while apologizing to the poor person who is walking their dog and looking at me in horror.

And I too have done the barking back at her thing, so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about - LOL.

The bottom line is that I have just about given up and try not to get too upset at her because most of the time she is a really, really good dog. Just a little bit nuts the rest of the time!!

Attachment 409150DANG - another Charlie! Thank you so much for your reply - it ain't just Charlie. :) Charlie is perfect (like Beanie) in every other way - but something sure gets them excited. We miss not taking Charlie with us on rides now but I just can't take the crazy barking/screaming anymore. I had to laugh with your description of Beanie jumping around so much in his seat - Charlie gets all twisted around when he goes into that mode. Someday a member will pipe in with a working solution that we both can use. For now - I have a box full of "solutions" that have worked for other members but not for Charlie! :) Thanks again for sharing your experience.

So, I was walking Beanie today and came across a woman with her dog Max. She was the first person that I encountered when I got Beanie and started walking her. Beanie is my first dog, so I am a total novice (ya, I got a Yorkie, duhhhh). Anyway, I hadn't seen her and Max for a very long time as my office has moved and I can't got home for lunch and take Beanie for a walk around my neighborhood. I now just take her to work (yes I am very lucky, everyone in work LOVES her and when I leave her home they ask me where is Beanie), so I haven't had the opportunity to see my neighbors and their dogs. Anyway, this dog owner was very nice as Beanie was GOING FREAKIN NUTS and I brought her over to Max, stooped down and patted her while she went near him and lo and behold, SHE CALMED DOWN!! My neighbor was so nice and suggested that maybe this is what I should do, allow Beanie to go up to a dog and be nuts, but just stoop down and pat her and show her that the dog is isn't going to hurt either one of us.

Anyway, I thought I would share this with you. I feel your "pain". LOL

For what it's worth.........I bought some of "Richards Calm" for dogs. It's in a dropper. I've used it 3 times. I'm honestly going to use it a few more times but so far it's not a miracle cure. I can't even rate it from say a 10 down to a 6......BUT, I spoke to a Yorkie owner today that said he will calm down as he gets older. She has an older Yorkie and one Buddybears age. We have Hope!!!!!!!!

Thank you, I will look into that. I guess Yorkies are just... well Yorkies. Stubborn, willful, wonderful, loving and most of all just exasperating!!

You knooooowwwwww...Maybe darlin', charmin' Charlie needs a buddy! A partner, if you will, to distract him from the rigors of the road (i.e. trips to the mall, et al). Nowww, I can hear you arguing that, instead of this being a solution, you could end up with twice the trouble--and that's true. So maybe you could "borrow" a neighbor's dog for a, ah-hem, test drive. And yes, I am totally picturing the Subaru dog-tested, dog-approved commercials and yep, I'm picturing a nice, gentle, lovely golden next to Charlie. Ahhhh, it's almost zen-like.

Jkpal, you are tooooooooo funny! My theroy; little dog= little poo, Big dog= Big Poo!😊. We had a golden retriever. The brushing was like brushing 20 yorkies, and bless his heart, Chris wanted to be a lap dog or touching you at all times.
My groomer suggested a Shihtzu for the next dog cause they are calmer and lap size.
That tv commercial almost makes me want another golden-------no, I had no clue what car was being advertised, lol, their $$$$$$$$ in advertising was wasted on me.😱

Jkpal 02-22-2016 04:55 AM

Just love those clever commercials and must admit that I, too, was unsure of which car it was for...had to look on internet to be certain!

WELL THERE YOU GO!!!! Charlie does NOT want to go home and thinks that every turn signal means he is going home. Should have figured out that HE is a riding hound. NEVER turn any corners NEVER go into parking lots NEVER stop LOVING that boy.

Now Prince Charming was the very opposite. Loved to go for the ride BUT Grandma's lap belonged ONLY to him. Of course our other 2 had their private places as well. Faline (as in Bambi's doe) slept on the seat next to her mistress and Cocoa slept between the bucket seats on a raised air pad so she would be able to assist in anything I needed.

A story about Cocoa if you don't mind -- She was a chocolate Lab service dog. I bought her at 11 weeks of age and began training her immediately. One day after she had mastered her ability to ride the cart in WalMart between my feet we went back to the car. Cocoa worked in a guide dog harness as it was the one that gave her the ability to keep me walking forward.
As we left the store and placed all of the groceries in the car, we walked around to the driver's side to load up for the drive home. A black & white (only color for a police car) pulled to a stop behind my car. He jumped out and said "Lady you are NOT driving this van anywhere. Blind people do not have the right to drive." Trying not to laugh too much, I explained that Cocoa was a service dog but not a guide dog. I could see everything completely and he said "Prove it", wrote a note on his hand and made me read it to him. To top it off as his Major went into the store I waved to him as we had been friends already 6 years. The Major was the one laughing because of the officer stopping me. Actually the Major had done this same exact thing. Our picture -- me and Cocoa -- was put in the briefing room so ever officer could read the notation. I kinda missed being stopped but life must go on.

Just had to give my Cocoa a spot of pure pleasure here. Cocoa would even catch money and bring it back to me. She was one special girl. My second angel.
