The videos make it very clear dad, you are NOT driving fast enough. He is clearly staring at you telling you pedal to the metal DADDY. Charlie is just to adorable and quite a little talker. Ya just gotta love these lil yorkies. |
Wow...what a funny hilarious lol thread! hahaha...thanks for all the stories! I was laughing one after another. haha.. I LOVE the photo of him in his bag. Where did you get that bag from? We've been looking for an inconspicuous bag for my fiance, because he doesn't like carrying mine that looks like a woman's purse. But anyway, back to Charlie - boy is he the cutest thing everrrr! And those videos. haha.. he's hilarious. Not sure if this is similar to your story, when we're both in the car and Scottie is in the dog bag on my lap, he's quiet. When it's just him and my fiance, he lets out these little heart-wrenching cries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlCjNx943e4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di6gBLY2UjI When I'm driving and he's in the dog bag on the passenger seat, he's suuuper quiet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOcy2xMMeyA So we finally realized it's because fiance used to spoil him and put Scottie on his lap when he drove (they both liked it) and now every time when he's stuck in the bag, he cries to get out! haha... |
When I'm driving and he's in the dog bag on the passenger seat, he's suuuper quiet. Gotta love those guy-bonding times, right?! Scottie is one adorable little honey~~just wanna smooch that cute, tossly noggin! Loved your videos! |

Charlie "is" a big dog in a small body, he is just to cute and one fearless Little guy lol. |
Charlie just keeps getting cuter and cuter! What a mighty little man! |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408489Well, today we decided to try the "water spray" approach when Charlie goes nuts. We pulled into a shopping center and Charlie went nuts! I calmly pulled out the "water spray" and sprayed him saying "QUIET." He looked at me we complete shock and stopped barking. The wife and I actually felt the level of power shifting – we were back in control. Well, ole Charlie starting screaming again so I sprayed him again saying “QUIET” after each spray. He stopped and looked at me again and stopped. Dang – WE WON! Well, before I could do anything he starting screaming again. I sprayed him and again (and again) with absolutely no reaction other than him screaming louder and louder. I gave up. On the way home - he taught us a lesson - he screamed all the way home! Yes, he beat us again – maybe I can load up the sprayer with pepper spray – that will teach the bugger! |
Spray bottle didn't work for me either, however Cody is PETRIFIED of the FLY SWATTER, all my passed girls were as well. They were never tapped or threatened with it. It was used as a "fly swatter" whenever I wanted to kill a fly I would grab "the fly swatter" and my girls would take off. So when the 3 were getting out of hand I would say mama's getting the "fly swatter" they would stop dead in their tracks and takeoff. Last year Cody was not behaving himself, I got the "fly swatter"just waved it in the air a few times, saying mama has the "flyswatter" instant behavior, now if he is misbehaving and will not stop I tell him mama's gonna get the fly swatter, then he's my good boy again. IDK, there is just something about a fly swatter flapping around in the air that make these guys scared of them and they settle down, why not try one out, just flap it around in the air a few times and call it by name "fly swatter". |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408491Thanks matese. When we go out in the morning I am going to look for the biggest and baddest FLY SWATTER! Will let ya know how it goes. |
Well if you are now in Fl. you will find the fly swatter, but, if you are in Pa. you will find snow shovels lol and that won't work lol. |

1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408495Alright alright alright with all the shovel jokes!!!! :) We are normally in Florida by now but making sure we have Charlie under some type of control before we hit the road. I ran down to our local Ace Hardware and picked one up. We are running around the house beating the counters with it so Charlie get some respect for its POWER! Sorry, but I just got this feeling that Charlie knows exactly what we are doing and just waiting to show who is the alpha dog in this family. :) Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. |
I use a rolled newspaper to get Bizzies attention. I just pick it up and point it in her direction and say her name in a stern (yeah right) tone and she stops what she is doing. I don't know why it works but it does. Works with Peanut too. They have never been spanked with anything but for some reason the rolled paper gets their attention. Easier to wave around than a snow shovel too.:) |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408496Well Parti Peanut - sure sounds like a great idea. However, the way things are going - Charlie will just grab the newspaper from my hand and chase me around the house! If the "fly swatter" doesn't work - we will try the "rolled newspaper" approach. If that doesn't work - I will buy a shovel! :) Thanks for the suggestion. |
I sure do hope you get Charlies yodeling under control before making that trip, 20 + hour drive and little Charlie's screaming his poor little throat will be sore:) |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408497Yea, we are dreading the drive matese. His screaming isn't near as bad with him in the back seat (pet booster seat) now. When he was sitting next to me in his Tote (on the wife's lap) - it was just tooooooo loud! :) We went out twice yesterday. The morning trip (about 20 minutes one way) he was pretty quiet and only whined a few times but no screaming UNTIL we hit the parking lot. After we left the shopping center - he screamed all the way home. :) Our second trip was met with screaming both ways. On the way home yesterday, the wife and I decided to "scream" along with him - he stops - looks confused - realizes what we are doing and goes right back to screaming. :) Got me thinking here - his screaming always stops when I take him in the store with us or step out of the car. The wife mentioned yesterday that it is very noticeable - the moment I step out of the car - he stops - when the wife steps out of the car he continues screaming? In order to take him in the store with us I have to step out of the car - hmmm. When I pull into my favorite coffee stop (wife still stays in car while I get a cup to go) - he stops when I open the door and exit. When I wait for the wife (while she runs into a store) he keeps screaming - I just open the door and step out of the car and come right back and sit down - he stops screaming. Dang - I wonder what that is all about? If I could figure out a way of stepping out of the car while it is moving and get back in - hey, I might have a solution! :) |

Have you considered contacting a trainer for obedience training? They may have a solution or ideas on what is going on & how to stop this behavior. I feel for ya. I applaud you for your patience. The things we do for these little furbabies we love. Praying for a solution for you all. |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408502Thanks LuvMyFurkidz for your reply. Funny, the wife ran into a pet shop and picked up some stuff AND a flyer for class obedience training as well as one-on-one. We are considering going the one-on-one and see what happens. If we do - will update this thread as well. Again, thanks for the suggestion. |
This is probably a ridiculous suggestion, but what about trying earplugs and simply ignoring little Charlie when his inner banshee comes out...? Piper hates being ignored; below is my response when I asked advice about stopping 'demand' barking (I remain very grateful to YorkietalkJilly!) YorkietalkJilly~~Thank you for suggesting I leave room, as it quiets Piper; I can see her wheels turning and though it may take a couple of times, she gets the message and most assuredly does not like being ignored or left alone!! I must say (my place is very small) that I found myself shaking my head and smiling as I "hid" in my, also very small, bathroom. Wait-What??! She has the run of the place while I'm "trapped" in the bathroom???? The things we do and go through for our little lamb chops and I wouldn't change a thing!! I find such joy in having Piper--even laughing at myself trying to train her! Thanks again! "Dogs love company. They place it first on their short list of needs." |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408504Thanks for the suggestion Jkpal. We pretty much ignore him the best we can seeing that everything else hasn't worked. On occasion we leave him home when necessary. We leave him blocked off in a large recreation room with door looking outside and a straight view to the garage door that we leave from (has his pee pad, water, toys, etc.) and even leave the TV on so he has some sounds. He also has his little sitting cushion on the couch, etc. The only difference is we aren't home. I also installed a NestCam so I can monitor him from my phone. He barks the entire time and even howls which is hilarious to watch. He goes constantly, stops to rest a few minutes and then starts up again. Many times we are gone for two or more hours - he just goes and goes and goes with more rest times in between! :) I told the wife at this stage - let him bark and howl until his throats hurts - maybe he will figure it out. Now, he is the perfect pet when we are home and when he is in his Tote Bag shopping with us - yea, we do have a monster. Right now he is sitting on his little cushion watching TV with the wife - unreal! He just about has us completely trained! :) |

Truth be told, it didn't take me long to understand that the more we did things Piper's way, the happier our home. I think Piper is rather proud that I caught on so quickly...arrgghh! I can just picture Charlie (another lil' dictator) ensconced on his cushion-y throne, watching tv! He is a little love for sure!!! |

Also, I have to be very quiet right now. Why? Charlie is STILL in the bedroom, under the covers sleeping so I don't want to piss him off by waking him up - talk about a life! :) |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 408521Just took this of Charlie watching TV! |
lol, Charlie definitely has the face of a little dictator, lol, he's so tiny and soooo cute. |
