Thank you everyone for your encouragement and stories. I must admit – Charlie has provided an element of fun the past 9 months. He certainly is pushing hard to see what he can and can’t do with two old farts. A few nights ago he came running up the ramp, onto the bed and right up to my face and stopped. He would go into “want to fight mode” – you know, kind of jumping at you and backing up. I made a BIG MISTAKE at that moment (yes, I lost control - what was I thinkingl) – I threw the blanket over him – the fight was on! I would cover him up and push him around – he would get out from under the blanket – and we would start all over again. Little did I know I just started a “tradition” with this turkey. Well, last night was the 3rd night in a row – we had to have a fight before he would let me go to sleep. He truly is a pain in the butt – but like other’s have mentioned – you got to love them! |
Rambo loves "blanket party!" LOL (just what I call it) I'll yell, "blanket party" and he runs to the nearest blanket whether it's downstairs in the laundry room or a blanket in a dog bed and the fight is on! I saw you post about 3 a.m. and I thought, uh oh, what now! LOL It's a good one! |
That was funny (blanket party). Read your post to the wife - she also thought it was hilarious as well. I normally get up once a night - get some orange juice and turn on the computer for an hour or so...the only time Charlie will leave me alone! :) |
This post and the responses (MarkFS, yes, you!!) have provided me with some of theee best alone-laugh-out-louds everrr! You all have filled me with a lot of joy this holiday season!!! |

Anyway, today we made three stops and all three times Charlie let us know he was with us and not taking any prisoners! He screamed and screamed and screamed. For just a moment I thought he was yelling RAPE RAPE RAPE or maybe FIRE FIRE FIRE! :) Yes, we waited him out - when he stopped we got out and took him with us. Funny, when he is with us in the store in his little case - he doesn't make a peep - just sticks his head out when someone comes by so he can get a pet. |
1 Attachment(s) BTW - When I talk about Charlie and his case - this is it! |
No way anybody can resist touching that little domed silky cutest noggin!!! |

My Tiffany would do the same thing, I always put her outside to pee on the grass and she would always get a small treat. But when winter came and I put her out and she squatted on the snow and peed and then ran to me for her treat, I looked and SAW NO WET SPOT in the snow!!! She faked her pee! I laughed 'til I cried. Lacy will do a little pee on her UGO, get a tiny treat, and go and do another little pee, get another treat and will then go and do a third one. But at least she is peeing, LOL, (she is not a "faker" yet!) she just does little pees to get more treats. These dogs are so darn smart! |

Max cried/whimpered in the car his entire first year. He kept it up for 6 hours straight on our drive to the breeder's home to pick up his brother Teddy. Part of it was nervousness, part was excitement. Hopefully with age, Charlie will learn to settle down and just enjoy the ride. |

Well, he just started another dang thing - he is scratching walls! Have no idea where that came from. At first I thought something was in the wall BUT he scratched three separate walls in different rooms for some reason. I searched the forum and others have noticed the same thing - some contribute it to teething, etc. Will this ever end! NOTE from an old yorkie mom: First take him to the vet = may have inner ear problem, Prince Charming did this every time his ears bothered him. Second YOU should only give treats once in a while for going to do his business. DON'T give it the same time every day. It is a treat NOT his food. Third STOP letting him be the boss :yelrotflm like that will ever be possible! Fourth GIVE UP and let him rule your hearts. :warning: Seriously, if you are putting him in the crate on the floor, he just might be yelling because he is in pain. The floor of cars become very hot. He might be getting burned down there. The only way to tell you something is wrong is to talk to you by barking. The more you ignore that first few moments the worse he is burned and the more he will scream setting a pattern of every time I get in the car I MUST scream. My service dog had to have a 4-inch pillow between the seats because of the heat from the car burning her. We drove 2 hours when she became restless - something she never did in the car. This time we had driven a straight 2 hours and she had a few blisters on her chest from the heat off the floor. This was even with the car carpet and a soft blanket. Since she was not allowed to ride on the seats, we went to a fabric store and bought three 4-inch foam squares and covered them with two blankets to keep her off the hot floor. We had a cooling pad between the foam and the blankets. I recommend strapping the crate on the seat in the back so it cannot fly forward with a quick stop. Then placing him in the crate without going anywhere. After he stops screaming give him a treat. Every time he stops for about a week; then every other time he stops; then every 3rd time and so on until he only gets a treat one time in the car. Eventually you need to work it to where he gets his treat only when he arrives home and has not screamed at all in the car. He will catch on very quickly BUT you must be consistent with him. ONE slip-up by you and he will know that it can be reversed and you will need to start all over. :aimeeyork = I am a professional trainer of service dogs and we do train Yorkies as service dogs as well as Labs, German Shepherds and Border Collies (others as needed) |
He's so cute!!! Looks like a boss in his seat...they certainly have such big personalities! |
