| ![]() I was so hoping, for your sake, that he would out grow the barking. Barney was like that when we first started travelling with him. But he does much better now. Like Charlie, he gets super excited when it's time to "go" and it doesn't matter where we are going. Our Florida trip is in June. I made my husband buy a new rig. We got a truck that has a bench seat in the front just for the pups. It is so much nicer with the dogs in their car seat in the front. They can see everything and are much calmer when they sit next to us. The vet's assistant told us that one of the dog owners that comes in makes her hubs sit in the back seat so the dog car seat can go up front. I'm not that bad.........yet. By the way, low dose melatonin without artificial sweeteners work pretty well for my crew. It kind of takes the edge off without completely drugging them.

| ![]() Like you, drugs seem a last resort to me, but if Charlie needed to take medicine to keep from getting upset tummy when traveling, he'd probably get that medicine. Maybe we need to think of the mellowing medicine as something to sooth his little mind???? He's a unique little fellow and I love his other quirks---sooo Charlie! Any recent pictures of your little dreamboat? |

| ![]() Excellent deduction and very possible, indeed! Sometimes little ones just cannot contain their excitement and can easily over-do and/or they don't know any other way of expressing their joy. Sooo...maybe try taking Charlie to a drive-in movie and eating popcorn?! Who knows, the double-whammy might just cause him stop in his tracks in order to absorb the wonder of it all!!! Any chance of a little video of Charlie gearing up for a piece of popcorn? |

| ![]() Charlie is awesome, and my boy is freaked out after seeing the car video. He's been continually sniffing the ear and searching the living room for his wanna be friend. He finally gave up the search after a good 5 minutes and has such a sad expression on his face. Thank you for sharing. Kathy (and Morris!) |

| ![]() [QUOTE=SWOwner;4725001]Attachment 411502Funny you should suggest that. A few trips back the wife sat in the back seat with Charlie - when he went into his "nuts mode" she offered him popcorn (right up to his face). It had absolutely no affect - he was just stuck in his "nuts mode."! ![]() I recently introduced freeze-dried rabbit (https://www.stellaandchewys.com/dog-...olutely-rabbit) to my two and they absolutely love it. They love all treats, but with the rabbit meal patties - they go nuts and whine and beg and cry for it! Maybe you could try that on lil ol Charlie during your exciting car trips! ![]()

| ![]() Our pup, now 2, had a tough time in the car. We tried the car seat with the short tether and somehow she found her self hanging over the side. She would get so twisted up and panic. In the end, we've trained her to ride nicely up front. Our next car will have a front seat arrangement to better accommodate a yorkie. I think that should be an option, right? In the motorhome, we attach a leash over the seatbelt upright and have food/water and a piddle pad within reach and she comes and goes. We found a product called Bach Rescue Remedy (available in pet supplies) that works pretty well when we do air travel. It just takes the edge off. We have to give it too her further ahead than the directions for it to take effect. She is in the cabin and likes the vibration on take-off when she's tucked under the seat. Kinda like an infant in a car. I love your Charlie stories and pictures! Thanks for sharing ![]() |

So, funny! *Maybe* I'll give it a try. If our pup is fussy, at least I'll be calm. Look forward to hearing if you get some results. HINT: Give with a little food and water. It gets into the system better that way. We give about 30 minutes before the stressful situation. We also will sometimes give 2 doses more closely spaced. BTW, we found trying to train stress with treats didn't work - she'd just as often act incorrectly to get the treat as act correctly. She also would express the stress by aggressively (overly eagerly) eating the treat and then demand more. That was the end of that! | |
