Does anyone have a rain shelter on their patio for their Yorkie?

I am wanting to build a simple rain shelter on my patio for my Bailey, to keep him dry during the rainy days. Does anyone in Yorkieland have any ideas? Thanks much!

My patio has an awning, so it came with a "rain shelter". Maybe you could just get some sort of an awning added to your patio? They have those fabric ones that you can roll in or out. I think they're reasonably priced.

My patio is covered also.

Sophie Kate does not like the rain so it really does not help in our case, when it is raining she is quick outside to potty and then zoom back into the house.

We've got one of those big, waterproof patio umbrellas/parasols for our 'big, butch Harry' to go under when it's raining..... Sally + Harry x

Thanks for the ideas I do have a patio umbrella, so I will try that and also look into an awning that I can roll up. As I live in a Rain Forest, British Columbia, is the material waterproof or water repellent?

Hee hee!! All I know is, I can stand underneath it and stay dry....unless the rain's going 'sideways' of course, then nothing really works And this is England.... Good luck! Sally + Harry x

The retractable patio awnings I have seen are definitely waterproof. It's more of a permanent solution vs. an umbrella. The awning actually attaches to your house. Here's a link I found after doing a quick search...SunSetter Awnings - Retractable Deck and Patio Awning.
After looking online, I think they actually might be a little more expensive than I had originally thought. Sorry. Not sure what your budget looks like.

I'm actually thinking about replacing mine with a fabric awning. Mine's metal, maybe aluminim? And I swear the aluminum absorbs so much heat & makes that side of the house a lot hotter in the summer. It'd be great if I could install solar panels in it. I don't think that's in my budget though.

Yes, I was looking at those too....why is everything more expensive than we think they should be?!!!?

We used to have an aluminium awning at the back - but we actually took it down because of the noise of the rain bouncing off it - it was right underneath our bedroom window and was like water torture.... Sally + Harry x

Yes!! Ours sounds like it's exploding when it rains! That's another reason I want to get a fabric one.

I'm sure you can have a simple wooden frame built && then add tarp above. I'm sure it's not the most fanciest thing but I'm thinking that's reasonable as far as price. Maybe around $50 or less... You would just need sandbags or some weights for corners.

Great idea! I didn't think of a tarp!! Fancy doesn't count when your 7.4 lbs and don't like to get your light coat wet. Tarps now come in some great colors so this will work well. I will seriously look into this... thanks! I find with Bailey's fine hair, he gets cold quickly and transversely, also gets hot quickly. Having said that, I do put a coat on the poor dear when its chilly/rainy out He doesn't really like the feel of the coat but I'm sure he likes the fact that it keeps him dryer than w/out. Thanks all.
