YT 500 Club Member | Is this true? The coat type is a reflection of genetics in the line. As mentioned above it standard for a yorkie to have more of a silkier/hair like quality than the cottony/fluffy coat. As puppies, you can get a generalized idea of the coat quality by looking at the eye shine color from the flash from a photo. Green eye shine=silky Red eye shine=cottony That's something another member had stated... Just curious if it really works that way

| Geez louise, I don't know from this shine red/green stuff, nor am I certain of the difference between silky and cottony...I am, however, absolutely positive and believe that it can be proven scientifically, that Piper is thee-cutest-little-Piper-girl-ever-in-the-entire universe...And goshdarnit, that should count for somethin'! Plus, it would appear that Pipe can change her coat-type at will...no?? I'm blaming this nonsense on sleep deprivation (my story, stickin to it...) |

| I become like a drunken person (don't imbibe myself) and I think I'm soo funny and fascinating, but in truth, I usually just babble and ramble. Glad to meet someone else who just stays up cuz and cuz it's kinda fun...! 'Course, working graveyard lends itself to that anyway! |

| When Teddy was a puppy his eye shine used to be green, sometimes blue. Now as he's gotten older it's red. He has always had a cotton coat so I don't know about that. |

| My breeder says it holds true for her crew. Green for the silky coats and red for cotton. |

| There is a scientific explanation for eye shine, something regarding the structure of the eye and "cones" that reflect certain colors. The cone structure does have some relationship to coat texture. That said, there are many things that can influence eye shine like the source of the light. My boys have silky coats and I have photos of them with all different kinds of eye shine color. Sometimes one eye will be the blue/green and the other eye will be gold/red in the same photo. Depends on my camera and the lighting.
