The coat type is a reflection of genetics in the line. As mentioned above it standard for a yorkie to have more of a silkier/hair like quality than the cottony/fluffy coat. As puppies, you can get a generalized idea of the coat quality by looking at the eye shine color from the flash from a photo. Green eye shine=silky Red eye shine=cottony
