There is a scientific explanation for eye shine, something regarding the structure of the eye and "cones" that reflect certain colors. The cone structure does have some relationship to coat texture.
That said, there are many things that can influence eye shine like the source of the light. My boys have silky coats and I have photos of them with all different kinds of eye shine color. Sometimes one eye will be the blue/green and the other eye will be gold/red in the same photo. Depends on my camera and the lighting.
