| A litter of yorkies I've already had the opportunity of owning a quality pup from my breeder. I was wondering if 3 puppies of the same litter that looked the same at 2 weeks, are most likely going to grow up to be the same size if eating the same diet and receive equal exercise? The reason I ask is I'm suppose to get the smallest boy of these three but they all look the same. I'm anxious to know if there will be much change in their size differences at 8 weeks? They all look like adorable chubby pups to me now. |

I am not what the answer is but I can tell you that my Oscar was smallest by a few ounces in his litter of three and he turned out to be the biggest . His siblings are 6 pounds each and Oscar is 10 lbs ..

| lolol Oscar! From what I understand, the breeder does know the blood line of these two and there's not to be any surprises like Oscar. I just wondered if all three are the same size now at 2 weeks, what are the chances one would be a bit smaller at 8 weeks? Houdini weighed 6 pounds after he was neutered. Perhaps I could just ask the breeder. I hate bothering him but he's the one who will know...I'll work up enough to ask. |

Yes , the breeder would be the one to ask . Although there are no guarantees with sort of thing . I knew what weight Oscar would be when we bought him . The breeder predicted about 9 pounds and that is perfect for us . We did not want a real tiny anyway ..

| Well that was wonderful! I guess a few ounces isn't that big of a difference. |

| I have gotten two girls in the last two yrs and with each girl I was told she would be a small yorkie. Both came from show breeders. One breeder is still showing the other has retired. One of my girls is 8.2 pds to me she is beautiful but she is not really a small girl as I was told. The other girl is probably 3 pds most differently small as the breeder had informed me. I was suspicious that the 8 pd girl was going to be larger when I picked her up. She seemed larger than any of my yorkies in the past. Of course she exceeded the size expected of around 6 pds.but she is the sweetest baby and she's a solid baby Even though the one girl is 8pds she is still considered small compared with other dogs. The other girl is a tiny girl but her parents were average weight out of show lines. So as Oscars Mom said there are no guarantees.

| I am not debating the final weight. I'm asking if these three brothers are the same size, what are the odds one will be smaller at 8 weeks or ever? |

| Well , the thing is just because they are the same size now means nothing really . All Yorkies grow at different rates . If you want a specific size I would suggest getting a full grown adult . |

| I didn't mean it like that, that the puppy had to be a certain size. I'm only looking at a litter that look all the same size and think to myself that they'll grow up to be the same size; wonder if someone knows if one could be smaller than the other when full grown? Maybe it's just a dumb question. Unless My Oscar you are saying they'll still grow at different rates means one could end up being smaller. To me if they're only ounces apart, it doesn't really matter. We had their full brother and to me he was perfect. |

| Maybe think of it how our human babys grow, all 3 of my kids were with in an ounce of each other but they grow to be different sizes tall short ..... there DNA told them how to grow. With the sweet little pup in the picture will also grow to what there DNA tells them. So they may all be different sizes even if they all look the same size. Only pups we would think in grams not ounces. Hope that helps |

| Anyone know what the formula is when weighing at 2 weeks? At 12 weeks is triple for a guess isn't it? |

| I communicated with the breeder this afternoon. He's going to write me tomorrow with some more information. I know whatever I get from him will be a beautiful, healthy companion, but I have some things that I had for Houdini that I'd like to reuse so I really would like to stay under 7 pounds. Between 4-7 pounds, Houdini was 6. If I'm given a handsome fellow that is going to be 9 pounds, I'll have to put the things on the shelf to hold dust and I won't be able to take him with me as I did Houdini because of some physical issues I have and he'd just be too big. So I may be waiting longer for a puppy or maybe not, we'll see what he has to say. I did figure today that with Houdini, at his 12-13 week weight X 3 was a great projection of what his adult weight was; within ounces and less than a pound difference. I'm not asking for an itsy bitsy dog, just the smallest of what he can offer that is beautiful, healthy and from a mother that doesn't throw big puppy surprises. The breeder is familiar with his dogs so he'll know what he can do for me. He's done it before, I trust him to help me again. Then when I get Pax, I just want to train him and enjoy the little fellow and the things we have prepared for him. I realize the pups in the picture are going to be really beautiful quality dogs but they are weighing 14.2 oz at 2 weeks. I'm not a breeder nor am I sure what that may mean at that age but that seems like a hefty weight for 2 weeks, I'd guess they'd be 8-9 pounds when they're grown. I feel more comfortable with the weight at 12 weeks X 3 but if I don't have that to go by and he comes home with me at 8 weeks there will be nothing more I can do. How accurate are the 8 week projections? Is there such a thing? I don't remember these formulas that help. I do understand that the growth charts are a joke, in my opinion. Who knows, maybe I'll wait till December when the final payment has been made and see how much these pups weigh and just take one home with me because I can't stand to wait any longer. It's awful having such little patience. Last edited by softlyspeaks; 10-27-2015 at 04:40 PM. |
