I communicated with the breeder this afternoon. He's going to write me tomorrow with some more information. I know whatever I get from him will be a beautiful, healthy companion, but I have some things that I had for Houdini that I'd like to reuse so I really would like to stay under 7 pounds. Between 4-7 pounds, Houdini was 6. If I'm given a handsome fellow that is going to be 9 pounds, I'll have to put the things on the shelf to hold dust and I won't be able to take him with me as I did Houdini because of some physical issues I have and he'd just be too big. So I may be waiting longer for a puppy or maybe not, we'll see what he has to say. I did figure today that with Houdini, at his 12-13 week weight X 3 was a great projection of what his adult weight was; within ounces and less than a pound difference. I'm not asking for an itsy bitsy dog, just the smallest of what he can offer that is beautiful, healthy and from a mother that doesn't throw big puppy surprises. The breeder is familiar with his dogs so he'll know what he can do for me. He's done it before, I trust him to help me again. Then when I get Pax, I just want to train him and enjoy the little fellow and the things we have prepared for him.
I realize the pups in the picture are going to be really beautiful quality dogs but they are weighing 14.2 oz at 2 weeks. I'm not a breeder nor am I sure what that may mean at that age but that seems like a hefty weight for 2 weeks, I'd guess they'd be 8-9 pounds when they're grown. I feel more comfortable with the weight at 12 weeks X 3 but if I don't have that to go by and he comes home with me at 8 weeks there will be nothing more I can do. How accurate are the 8 week projections? Is there such a thing? I don't remember these formulas that help. I do understand that the growth charts are a joke, in my opinion. Who knows, maybe I'll wait till December when the final payment has been made and see how much these pups weigh and just take one home with me because I can't stand to wait any longer. It's awful having such little patience.
