1st night success stories at 8 weeks I'm getting excited and nervous trying to prepare myself for the first night, just in case Pax comes home at 8 weeks. This won't be until the first week of December. I'm a big planner and I hope to be able to pick him up in the morning so we have all day to try and familiarize him with us and our routine. I'm assuming he needs to eat every 4 hours at 8 weeks and my experienced breeder assured me he could sleep all night I didn't think he'd be coming home until 10-12 weeks. I've been studying some good tutorial videos and tried to glean the best tips I'll share. In anticipation, I've already begun to adjust my schedule, going to bed earlier and setting alarms for getting up, feeding times and bed time preparations. He'll be in a small cozy crate when not supervised and I'll also tether him to me. I've explained to my daughter that during "crate" times, she can take him out to play but after crate, he has to have opportunity to potty and after play before entering the crate is a potty opportunity. I was encouraged to give him 10 min of free roaming time in the house after going outside to potty and work up to an hour. here's the plan: 1. put the food up 4 hours before bed 2. put the water up 2 hours before bed 3. play with him the hour before bed 4. 15 min outside potty time before bed 5. we'll have a small crate to place by my bedside and cover it 6. have a small soft toy and blanket, perhaps warm a bean jean bag, used for touch therapy(hope there will be room for him) in the crate. Encourage me with your success stories, I've read just a couple of them on the site Tell me your puppy slept 6-7 hours straight. The puppy will not be sleeping in our bed so I hope to hear from you that crate your babies. I really do not want the puppy to have to sleep somewhere else other than beside my bed because of crying but can't stress how important our sleep is. Sincerely, SS Last edited by softlyspeaks; 10-22-2015 at 11:05 AM.

I am sorry.....I missed what happened that you are now getting this baby at 8 weeks rather than 12 weeks old? Who is the breeder? Just curious..... Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 10-22-2015 at 11:11 AM.

The owner of the dog that killed my 3 year old yorkie is paying for the new puppy. She paid 1/2 yesterday and the rest is to be paid before the puppy can be given to us. I always had it in my mind that the breeder waited till the puppies were 12 weeks before releasing them to their new homes. Later he said they would be ready at 8 weeks. When I expressed my concern about the puppy being able to sleep through the night at 8 weeks and would prefer waiting till 12, he assured me the puppy could sleep through the night at 8 weeks. When the puppy is paid in full is when he can come home, sometime in December as early as 8 weeks.

| Two to three weeks after I get a pup that young is when they usually settle down at nights. Until then, they whine and/or bark off and on. We do not allow them out until thy are quite in the morning. If you ever let them out while they are whining or barking (unless emergency of course), you will be in for a longer haul towards peace at nights. Place an item with your scent on it in the bed. We usually use an old sock because we do not care if it is torn up. Some pups do better with soft music playing, others do not. Some like the sound of an old ticking clock, some do not care. Each pup is unique. In time, you will figure out what makes the difference for yours.

It seems, if I remember, having to place our first yorkie in another place at night, in his crate, because we had to get some sleep. He came to live with us at 13 weeks. I've been reading old threads about this topic and there were a couple of really good ones. It seems that all that had success, in my eyes, were on a schedule, exercised their pups, one couple even walked 4 miles a day with their 10 week old to Starbucks. That's encouraging.

I used the crate training method with my puppy but she did not sleep through the night until about 20 weeks. She slept in her crate on my bed and woke up once or sometimes twice each night because she had to go pee. A dog hates to pee in their own crate and we don't want them to have to. Since their bladders are way to tiny to expect to hold it all night long, it means us having to get up in the night to take them out. Sucks. Reminded me of having a newborn. But, like with a baby, good bonding and taught my girl that if she has a need, I will meet it.

Thank you Wylie's Mom, that is very kind of you. I'm going to try and hope for the best. I tend to stress before hand and then am able to enjoy the event. Part of me just really hopes he'll come home closer to Christmas because we have so much going on through the holidays. My daughter in law is ready for us to start Thanksgiving and Christmas prep. Last year, I had it all done before Thanksgiving. Not knowing when Pax will come home, it sounds like I better do the same this year. Little by little.

A puppy is a big responsibilty, like bring home a human baby. It really isn't fun if you're tired. If I am not prepared, I will fail terribly and there will be no peace in my home. Did you know Pax means peace? That is what I am hoping for., a peaceful pup. I made a lot of mistakes with Houdini and don't want to repeat my mistakes.
