| Board or not to board I have a 13yr old Yorkie who has never been boarded for long periods. He recently was put on seizure meds and became a bit more needy and has to urinate more due to the medicine causing a thirst issue. I always had a neighbor come and watch him but he was alone through the night, I am so stressed about going away in Nov.I did find a 24hr vet that boards older and sicker dogs but am nervous about that as well..any opinions.. |

YT 500 Club Member | Do you have to be away? Is there someone you trust to leave him with. I would be Leary to be away from my baby with any health issue. No one knows your baby but you. And he knows you. I wish you luck to do what it comfortable for your little one.

| A vet is your best bet- if he goes downhill suddenly they can intervene. Make sure you tour the facility. Look at the dogs that are there currently- look for gooey eyes, things that should probably be looked at but haven't- small wounds that don't look cleaned, that sort of thing. |

| I'm not 100% a fan of boarding but its a cheaper option than having a pet sitter. If a friend can't watch him then is it possible to take with you? I travel with Emma as much as possible but there have been instances where either a friend takes her or to our vet who has a boarding facility.

| I will be driving top Florida from NY and going hockey games and Disney for 10 days..so no chance he can come..It would overwhelm. My girlfriend offered to stay over but I still feel he will be alone for long periods and the vet is 24hrs. I found 2 vets I will be going to. I guess my instincts will be the one to really decide.. |

| Boarding How I feel for you and understand. I hate leaving my boy too, but rarely I need to go somewhere that he cannot come with me. I have looked for a suitable boarding sitter who will be there most of the day and take great care of him. Because of health issues he needs to be fed special food four times a day, and that is not an easy requirement to have a sitter do. My dog also needs some coaxing to eat if I am not there! So he may not eat! I have been advised that a vet boarding is the right thing to do, but I cannot imagine him being in a cage most of the day, being alone at night and I fear him picking up some disease at a vet's. Having someone in my home means the person cannot live their life and will probably not be in my home watching the dog too much. I have not had much luck with boarding before and found that however well I researched, the experience has not been what was promised. So I am still looking and hoping I find the right sitter....but it is so hard. So I wish you good luck and hope that you find a fellow dog lover who has a good experience with a great sitter. It so happens I am going through this process as you are and it is so stressful. Oh that I had a close relative nearby who would love and care for him as I do. |
