| Adopted Yorke.Questions Hello YT, I apologize if this post is too long,I just really want to share I am a new (and very happy) Yorkie parent. Layla is a sweet 2 year old, 7 pound, said to be Beiwer Yorkie (I have some doubts about it, but it doesn't really matter). I got Layla from a family who loved her, but was not able to give her proper care and attention. She was not much up to date on her vaccines and is still not neutered. I did not get much information about her as it was somewhat hasty adoption and I feel like her previous owner was a bit ashamed of giving Layla up and not taking much care of her. It is only known that they tried to breed her, but her puppies had dramatic physical issues not compatible with life. I took Layla to the vet the very next day and she got so many compliments on how absolutely healthy she is, no ear infections and her poop sample came back clear as well. I say that, because my concern was that she was scratching her year a lot. Layla has now been with me for a bit over 2 weeks and has adjusted perfectly to her new home. She has few accidents every now and then, but we are working on her potty training (previous owner would just let her roam in the yard for hours) and her walking on a leash a little better (she has never really done that). She is playful, loving and has a great appetite! She is taking on crate training pretty well (may occasionally cry for a minute), but she sleeps there comfortably trough the night. My biggest concern with her at the moment is her bitting/nipping on her hind legs constantly and while ear scratching has dramatically subsided she now started to try catching around her eyes and either with paws or rubbing on the carpet. I talked to the vet about it and she told me to wait a bit and see if it is behavioral issue due to stress, but after watching her for a week I just feel like it is more of an allergy. I would love to hear your advise and input! Also here are 2 pictures of Layla. One the day we got her and another from 2 weeks after |

| Congratulations on your precious baby girl. Layla is a little doll. The biting of paws is usually a sign of allergies, head rubbing can also be from other things like liver issues, but what you describe is different from that. It may be behavioral or stress related, and if you're not seeing any signs of fleas (some dogs are highly allergic to them), I'd call the vet and see how he'd feel about you trying a couple of doses of Benadryl to see if it helps. There are better things than Benadryl, but this would give you an idea if it is allergy related. There are some Bach's Rescue Remedies and other flower remedies from Bach that might be helpful to help alleviate the stresses of her new home. I wish you the kind of love, laughter, happiness, and devotion that my little Yorkies have given me through the years. Four are at the Rainbow Bridge, and two years after losing our last seventeen little girl, three year old Katie joined our hearts and our home and made our lives and whole again.

YT 1000 Club Member | Welcome to Yorkie Talk! She is beautiful! Congrats on bringing her home with you. If it is allergies it could be environmental and she needs allergy pills, or it could be food related. I would ask the vet about that. If her paws look red, raw, that is usually a sign of environmental, like look at her paws well and see if it looks irritated. Fleas will also cause that. If it is food related then she probably needs a food that is limited ingredient. She will keep changing over the first few months you have her as it takes them time to adjust and fully show their full personality. I would get her spayed soon. If her puppies did not do well I would not have her have more. She sounds wonderful and I hope she brings you years of happiness!

| I can't comment on the allergies but I can say it is so wonderful to hear your story. The picture paints a 1000 words. She went from the dirty little step child to a beautiful Cinderella. Layla is lucky to have found you!

| Does she randomly scratch/nip throughout the day or do you notice she does it more after a walk or have been outside? You can try wiping her down after every outing with puppy wipes or baby wipes (for sensitive skin only) see if that helps. Do you use something like Fabreeze or some other odor eliminating product? I'm assuming you're feeding her whatever the previous owner was feeding. But you could also try giving her blend meals for a while to see if makes any difference as well. This is more like a guessing game and process of elimination. It'll take some time but I'm sure you'll be able to find a solution one way or another. Btw, congrats on your new furbaby!!!!! |

| She is adorable. Congratulations and I am so glad you rescued her. I don't know about allergies. Settling in takes some time but she sounds like she is on her way to becoming absolutely at home. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm SO glad you have her, bless your heart! Sounds like her previous owners neglected her a lot. She is adorable. On the itching - is she also, by chance, chewing/licking her paws at all? Bc that too is a cardinal sign of allergies. For more on allergies, read this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html

| Layla's beautiful and you are so generous to give her the home she deserves. I don't have any insight on possible allergies but have found that an oatmeal shampoo can really help with dry skin if that were an issue. Best of luck to you! |

| Oatmeal is a GRAIN, if pup has allergies using oatmeal shampoo is the worse shampoo to use. Yearssss ago I had a white poodle who needed frequent baths, oatmeal shampoo was advised to use for frequent baths, so I started using it on Cody who had been scratching at himself, I was working on possible food allergies.I was bathing Cody once a week with a quality oatmeal shampoo, after 3 weeks he started biting at his back where the tail starts, now he had sores from the biting, off to the vet we go. Vet said not to use oatmeal shampoo, I now use Hylite shampoo you can only get this from a vet. Cody has environment allergies and is on meds, I also feed him limited ingredients dog food advised by my vet.

| Sorry my spelling was incorrect, it's Hylyt shampoo. I just checked Amazon and YES it is the same one. My vet said this shampoo can be used everyday if necessary. I bath Cody once a week using this shampoo only.

| Wow- she is cute! My dd rehomed a yorkie who pawed her eyes when we first got her.(she had been freshly groomed because the people felt so bad about rehoming her) Now we are very careful to use mild shampoo and rinse her face a few extra times. We use unscented detergent on all her bedding and feed grainfree single protein food (fish or lamb). |
