| Upper UTI? Hi there Yters, (disclaimer, No I am not a minor, I am independant, just live in a multi-family home.) Colby has been having bouts of "upset" tummy. Being a picky eater, and a puppy everyone in his life, including myself, WERE indulging him with tiny amounts of human foods. His "hunger" strikes were beginning to increase. What seemed to fall in line with these strikes where days where he was spoiled to much. 2 weeks ago we went to the Vet. Came home with temporary and permanent meds, and told to follow his food diet and NO CHEATING. Might have a food allergy and we are just making him sick. Thing is last night he had another bout of upset tummy. He did not cheat and we watch him like a hawk, he's not eating bird poop or anything. No vomiting but asked to go out 2 times in the middle of the night(diarrhea) and Colby likes his beauty sleep. That is not normal. Sometimes he seems "hot" to me. But usually after play time so was told that was not a concern. I ran across an article tonight about dogs and UTI's and it says there are 2 kinds. Upper and Lower. Does anyone on here have experience with a dog and an UPPER UTI? What symptoms did your dog present? I'm confident that my vet was correct about his sensitive belly. But what if not and he is miserable? Thanks everyone! |

| Upper is kidney lower is bladder/tract or cystitis. Is he having any vomiting, not wanting to eat? Frequent urination, urinating in the house, leaking or blood in the urine? If he isn't having any of these symptoms and it is just diarrhea and nothing else I would continue to follow your vets advice. Is he on a probiotic? What meds did doc prescribe....was one metronidazole? Sorry for all the questions....we went through the diarrhea but with Winnie when she was a puppy (mainly food related....too high protien) and these were some of the things she had that made her better. I know there are a lot of folks here who's furry ones have tummy problems their whole life and require certain foods and or diet restrictions. I hope your little guy feels better soon!

| Ty for response. He's vomited off and on the entire time I've had him. That is why vet said must be food related. But recently a couple looked bloody. He gets needy, otherwise he's totally independent. Hell elimate urine and smell it and then lick and lick and lick. No whining or otherwise painful behavior. Vet said people food was most likely people food an un seen things/outside things made him sick. No pain when pushing on belly(he's not neutered so he gets haply lol). Just sporadic vomiting/diarrhea. I dont know if he's being a puppy with a bad tummy or something more. I don't have the money to test for things that are not necessary.. I will sell the clothes off my back and go imto massive debt if I have to. I just am trying to gauge my hypochondriac reactions to reality |

| Hmmm....I would say to just keep watching him....give him some time to see if the strict diet (if he's already used to people food it may mean crating him when u are not around to ensure he doesn't get something he shouldn't ) and medicine get his tummy right. Ask your vet about a probiotic powder (if he isn't already on one) and see what he thinks. That really really helped Winnie a lot. If he becomes severely lethargic or dis-interested in food, can't keep anything down, those are things I would get back to the vet for more testing. If he eats, drinks, plays, pees and poops....acting otherwise normal, I would keep doing what you are doing. I worry over Winnie too so I understand....
