| ![]() Off the top of my head and I am sure there are other things that could be added to this list. Most of these things that we see more often than in other breeds. Dentals usually needed yearly - I cannot tell you how many come to me never having had one ![]() luxating patellas cruciate ligament tears pancreatitis collapsing trachea IBD LCP HGE allergies lymphangectasia GME PDA PRA They also are not pups that children should be carrying around or rough housing with....the accidents I have seen from them being dropped is very troubling. My vet one day was joking with me about how did I pick this breed?

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() Thanks Linda for explaining you were talking about health issues. And for sure they can be daunting in the Yorike breed. But for general maintenance for sure dentals. Most large breeds (but not all) have no need for yearly dentals if you as the owner care for their teeth. For my large breed - and it can be quite devastating - hip and elbow dysplasia - CCL Tears - thyroid dysfunction - PRA and Cataracts. and heart disease. Also allergies - ear infections and cancer to the toenail and nose....

Bottom line is that yorkies are becoming one of the worst breeds in terms of having medical issues and people simply are not prepared to deal with the financial repercussions. One bout of pancreatitis can be extremely expensive...if treated properly. If not, they often die. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was going to go thru and highlight the sentences/thoughts/ideas/feelings, that I found exceptionally agreeable.... turns out, that would have been the entire post, so I just give the entire thought process a thumbs up. I also remember the craze, Pet Rocks....maybe we can revive THAT!!! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 09-18-2015 at 07:53 AM. | |

![]() ![]() This is secondary to people that look at a Yorkie, see nothing but dollar signs, turn around and breed that yorkie they know NOTHING about what conditions/diseases/etc are in THAT dog's lines, nor in the lines behind the dog they use to breed with, and gleefully have a litter of God only knows what kind of genetic disasters, turn around and dump them on unsuspecting, uninformed buyers, who gleefully see the same $$$$ and start breeding for vacations and paying for all the goodies in their lives.... and the entire thing is nothing more than a heart break and a train wreck waiting to happen.....and dump them QUICKLY, before they are responsible for shots or before those little time bombs start to get sick and die off.... And then there are the people that indiscriminately throw anything MIXED with a Yorkie, together, to cover Christmas or a great summer vacation, or new carpet for the house.....they know absolutely NOTHING about the genetic diseases and malformations their dog has lurking in its pedigree, and they know nothing about the dog they are using to breed with.....this aint like baking a cake, throwing crap together and crossing your fingers hoping it all turns out OK....then even more tragically, peddling these little time bombs onto a non suspecting buyer....but that is what I see happening every single day......so very tragic, the destruction of such a noble breed, by nothing more than ignorance and greed. I started rescuing in 2005 .. it was after that, maybe 2006 or 2007 when yorkies hit that AKC popularity list that I have grown to despise. I remember at the time that a friend of mine predicted just what has happened....of course there were problems then, but OMG they have multiplied AND the numbers of yorkies being dumped and/or surrendered now are unbelievable. Unless you live it, you simply could not comprehend....it is out of control.

| ![]() I googled it was curious myself lol The Latin phrase fiat lux, from the Latin Vulgate Bible, is typically translated as "let there be light" when relating to Genesis 1:3 (Hebrew: "יְהִי אוֹר"). Fits this OP
