| New Baby I am getting a new little girl in a week and she will eight weeks old. I am nervous to even let her out in the back yard to go potty since she wont have her shots for another 2 months. Will she be okay because I have another 4 year old dog that goes back there also. Should I just supervise where she goes and not let her go in the front yard since there are a lot more animals that walk around out there. Also how long should I wait until I can take her on a walk around our lake because there are a ton of geese and ducks that poop on the grass and sidewalks.I'm assuming that I should just wait a few weeks after i get her shots done. Please help any input will help. I am just really concerned as to where I should take her to go potty for potty training. |

| What about pad training? You can always transition to outdoor training later. My puppy is 3 months old now and has 2 sets of shots and Im still not ready to take him out to potty yet. and I don't even let him outside in the yard. I know it seems over protective but I had a puppy die of parvo when I was younger and I don't ever want to see that again so I wait until all shots are done just to be safe. |

| When I had puppy's they did not leave my house until they had all their shots. They were pad trained, at 5 months old they were 100% pad trained, by that time they had, had all their shots, then I started to house break them to potty outdoors, by 7 months old they were 100% house broken. Pad train potty until she has had all her shots. I myself would not let her in the yard. It is very hard with summer and beautiful weather to not allow puppies to be out and about, but this is done to protect this lil baby. No way would I allow her in the front of the house where other animals have been and lake walks are out until ALL shots have been given, your vet will tell you when she can meet her new world and be freely walked after all vaccines have been given.

| I agree with the others that I would wait until she has all of her shots, with the exception of rabies which is usually done closer to 5 - 6 months ideally. (Max had his earlier, so it is not the end of the world). Geese poop: no matter what age of the dog, be careful. It can carry Lepto. There is a vaccine for Lepto, but it only covers 4 strains of the hundreds that are out there. Try to avoid good poop eating for many reasons. It's tough. My boys are always after it and bunny droppings. Welcome to YT and congratulations on your pup!

| So what about if I go out to the store and have to bring her. Should I just hold her the entire time or keep her in a carrier? Thank you all for the awesome suggestions on going potty and help I will keep her inside until she gets all shots. |

| I would carry her, do not put her in a shopping cart, do not let stranger pet her. You would not believe how many ppl own dogs and do not vaccinate, you do not know who may have a sick pet at home, reason I say do not let strangers pet her until she has had all her vaccines. I know it's very hard to not take baby all over and show off this wee lil beauty, but for the safety of the puppy, I would be very careful who handles / touches her until all shots have been given.

| I don't want to be the rain on the parade, but is there any option for letting the pup stay with her mom and pack until at least 12 weeks? At 8 weeks, there are just so many possible problems that can pop up.
