Giant/Huge Yorkie

I recently purchased a yorkie and was under the impression he would be a teacup... Now my 7month old yorkie weighs almost 7pounds and looks more like a snaughzer.. I love him very much but I was mislead.. I purchased him from Pristineyorkies and would not recommend this breeder.. What you pay for is not what you get...very disappointed..

First off, congratulations on getting a yorkie. Secondly, there isn't any such thing as a teacup yorkie. That is just a marketing ploy to get more money from people. There are different size yorkies, the average yorkie being 5-7 lbs. Yorkies that weigh 3-5 lbs often have many medical problems. Yes, there are bigger yorkies, teapots as we lovingly call them. I have one who is over 12 lbs at a year old. I love him very much. He isn't overweight, he is very muscular and solid. He is just a bigger yorkie.
I really hope you weren't misled and sold a puppy other than a yorkie but I'm happy you love your furbaby no matter what. I hope you have many years of happiness with your baby.

A lot of the "looking like a schnauzer" might simply come from the haircut and the fact that your pup still hasn't gotten their adult coat yet. I've had a few occasions where I picked my Yorkshire terrorists up and they looked like somebody else's schnauzer... lol Try a different style cut or grow the hair out longer and that should help. ..

And actually, breed standard for yorkies is 4-7 lbs, and there actually isn't any such thing as a "Teacup" (as someone else already explained)... and even when breeding to get smaller sized results theres never a guarantee that each pup will follow form. Nature's just that way. so actually you DID get what you paid for. You paid for a Yorkie . There's no sub category for specifics, so as long as he isn't ACTUALLY a schnauzer, you didn't get scammed. They just threw word glitter at you with the teacup description. It happens more often than not unfortunately.

Even a reputable breeder that searched their mating pair lineage 10 / 15 generations back cannot GUARANTEE a pups weight will be 5 to 7 lbs which is yorkie standard. Breeders use the word "tea cup" to indicate they breed for the smaller dog 5 to 7 lbs and under. As above members have stated there is no such thing as a "teacup" yorkie. Just a phase used to lure ppl looking for tiny dogs and charge more money. Yorkies come in all sizes, my now passed girl was 100% AKC yorkie, as an adult she weighed a beautiful 17 Lbs. beautiful sleek body, my adopted boy weighs 12 lbs. I don't know what you mean when you say your puppy looks like a Schnauzer, do you mean your pups face looks like a Schnauzer or the pups hair color looks like a Schnauzer. Did you get AKC papers for your pup? In any case,you love the puppy that is all that matters. He is only 6 months old, there will be many changes in his development and hair coloring over the next several months Yes I would be ticked off if I was sold a dog that was NOT a yorkie.

We have a beautiful and wonderful little guy who weights about 12+ lbs. His size makes him the perfect dog to play with,. Sleep with and walk also. Their bigger size is better for them not getting hurt so easy. We love our little man 'Sebastian Monkey'. Thanks for letting me share. We are new at this. Hoping to learn more about breed, and breeding. I am wanting to start Breeding Sebastian but need to learn the end and outs of it, so any and all help would be welcome. TY agape patty
