| Barking at nothing Scooter had always been yappy but lately he barks at nothing. He'll be lying on the bed and he'll look at the door and start barking. There is never anyone there but apparently he thinks there is. He does this so often during the day and night that it's beginning to concern me. I give him the shush sound which has always worked but not any more. Any ideas?

| Sasha sleeps with me and she will hear a noise outside at 2 in the morning and won't stop barking for 30 minutes. Makes me nuts. Shushing does not work. I would love to hear something that will.

| Sure they heard something, Cody barkes in the wee hours of the morning, a fly flew over Alaska, just cause you didn't hear it doesn't mean they didn't lol.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If the "shush" isn't working at all, then you may want to get a Bark Genie from Amazon and use it with "no" or shush, to reinforce.

| As others have said, YOU may not think there's something there but but there is. One of the best, no shock products I've found is a spray called Pet Corrector. It just makes a loud hissing noise. The dog hates it and now will shut up if I just pick the can up. That said, what I often do is put a shock collar on Ruger before we go to sleep. I know many of you hate this idea, but I was able to reduce the voltage and while the dog feels it he doesn't jump or anything. After a few barks he stopped barking and now all I have to do is put the collar on him and he stops and won't bark again till I take it off. Another thing that works for me, sometimes, is to acknowledge what the dog is trying to tell me. I may thank the dog for warning me, and I often look out the window. Sometimes the look out the window is all it takes. I read that yelling at the dog is much like barking which just keeps things going even longer. |

| My cat passed away recently. While laying in the bed watching tv, Duchess just started barking incessantly. She was barking at a chair in my bedroom. It just so happens that it was the chair that my cat used to naps on. She had gotten so scared that she went to the door of my bedroom and refused to come in. She was even shaking. When I tried to pick her up and bring her back into my bedroom, she would run back out. She would not come into the bedroom. This lasted for about 15 minutes. This behavior happen the same night my cat passed away. After I got over being freaked out by it, I just figured it was Zoey teasing Duchess. Zoey never really liked Duchess too much so I think she was just taunting her one last time. That was the only time it happened. All the lights were out except my tv, I live alone so no one else was in the house. I am convinced there is an afterlife. My father told me that during in operation he drifter out of his body and could see the doctors trying to revive him. He had an out of body experience. |

| I know that yelling is like barking to them and if I look out the window or the door that only makes them bark more. Guess I'll just be glad they are with me to bark and if that makes them happy then OK.
