| Is my puppy a blue born puppy? I had a litter of 5 and one looks like it might be blue born but i've seen on here where people confuse blue with chocolate. Any input would be welcomed. Also for everyone that wants to lecture me on blue born puppies i've already done my homework on them and know what i need to do to take care of this problem. Im only asking input on if its blue or chocolate. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm sorry to say, that yes, this definitely looks like a blue born to me. I wish you the best of luck and hope it's not as affected by this conditions as some. I know you don't want a lecture, but I need to make sure you know that you should spay and neuter the parents, as well as the siblings who could be carriers, even if they don't exhibit the symptoms.

| Im not gonna spay my female. I tried a new male and this is what came out. I have use my other male lots of times and never had and issue. I tried using my friends Yorkie cause he had different traits and this happened but i wont be using him anymore. I'm also gonna spay this female and just keep her cause I know she will have a home that can take care of all her needs. |

| Hi! I have a blue born pup who turned 4 in February. Yes, that pup is a blue. BOTH parents carry the gene otherwise this pup would NOT be blue!! Both parents must be fixed!! Be so careful where you place this pup...he/she has a great chance of birth defects and problems. I always say that I will happily take in any blue, and I mean that!! My Mack has been very fortunate with his health as we have kept him very guarded, but even then, he has racked up well over $10,000 in vet bills. He is a sweetheart, but so very prone to illnessess. I pray you will have both the mom and dad spayed/neutered. If you have any questions at all reguarding this baby, please pm me and I will gladly gove you my phone number. May God bless this little baby!

Thank you so much for your posts, this is one of the reasons YT is so valuable, nothing is a better teacher than experience. God Bless you for looking after these babies! I feel like this condition could disappear, if breeders would do as you say, and neuter all pups who could have the recessive gene as well as the parents who have produced offspring with it. To the original poster, I hope you consider neutering all of the pups before placement, there are low cost neutering services in most towns. As a breeder, this is your responsibility.

| I pm'ed her and she responded saying she will keep her since she may have problems.... Didn't respond concerning the parents or other pups. Did what I could.... I just hope the poor pup is ok. Blues can be so challenging, but deserve all the love in the world!

| I tagged this thread with "blue born." Yes, that is a blue born--thanks to the OP for taking such a good photo! I agree with everyone else--the parents and the offspring should be neutered and never allowed to breed. Although being blue born is not a death sentence, they do tend to have more health problems, particularly skin issues. |

| I guess i'm narrow minded on fixing the parents. For one I only own the female. So I cant do much for fixing the male it's not my dog. The second is she's had litters before and those puppies that she had have also had puppies that all came out normal. Just cause it has a certain gene in means I cant supply puppies to people that are inline to buy my puppies? My friends sister keeps having kids and they all come out autistic 4 out of 5 of them does that mean she should stop having babies also? I would think that would be more of a thing to worry about than dogs with certain defects. All my puppies come out healthy and i sell them with a health guarantee. I don't really see the big deal about breeding them. But hey like i said i guess I'm narrow minded and stupid. |

| The gene is recessive, which means that in order for it to be expressed the pup had to get a copy from both parents. The other puppies from this breeding have a 50% chance of being carriers of the gene. Doesn't mean they won't be great pets. It does, however, mean that they should be spayed/neutered and not be used for breeding because you don't want to take the risk of passing on the gene and getting more blue borns. Whoever gets the other pups should be made aware that there was a blue born in the litter and the possibility that their pup carries the gene.
