| New Yorkie Owner Intro & Color Question This is my first post to the forms, so I wanted to introduce myself and show off some pics of my new pup. He was born on Feb 6th of this year and we have had him just over 3 weeks. We only owned one dog previously. He was a West Highland White Terrier and we had him from puppyhood until he passed away at age 14. He suffered from diabetes and needed insulin injections at every meal the last 4 years and was plagued with skin conditions & hair loss. Also the vet diagnosed him with cancer, but he stayed just as playful & happy the day before he died in his sleep than the day we brought him home as a puppy. It took us a few years to get over the loss and when we went to the breeder we were not set upon a specific breed. Among the many other dogs there, Enzo's looks & sweet personality won us over right away. He is nothing but a joy and has picked up basic commands & housetraining faster than we imagined possible. From walking on a leash to socialization he seems to pick up everything almost naturally compared to the struggle we had with our Westie as a brand new pup. Now I do have a question about his color. I attached one pic and I planned on more, but due to the file size limitations I can't add any others until I edit them to be smaller. I have read all kinds of info on this and other sites about how a Yorkie's colors mature, but I'm not sure how it fit in specifically with my dog. To me he looks black & white. As I mentioned before we loved his looks & personality and his breed was of secondary concern. When the breeder said he was a Yorkie I was surprised because he sure doesn't look like the stereotypical golden color that comes to mind. Just keep in mind that I'm a guy and subtle color shades are a bit lost upon me. His paperwork said black & silver, but I see black & white. So will the white parts turn more brown/golden as he ages? Will the black stay black or become more of the "blue" color I've seen mentioned? Thanks in advance for your help and I'm glad to have such a large, friendly, and helpful community to turn to when it comes to my new Yorkie, Enzo! |

| Here is Enzo's Flickr Pictures Still having problems getting the pics to upload to the forum just yet, but here is the link to his Flickr collection. Only got half a dozen not so perfect shots at the moment but hopefully enough to give you an idea of his coloration. https://www.flickr.com/gp/81083237@N04/z600fs I'm sure it will fill up with more pics fast. 😉 |

YT 1000 Club Member | He is one month older than my 2 puppies and he looks black and tan to me. I don't know what his parents looks like, but the tan will keep changing and he should end up a tan color in the face to even a rusty red color as my older Yorkie has. Some are blond are in the face. His back may stay very dark black, it may turn silvery blue. It is really hard to say what color he will end up, but he will keep changing color for quite some time. I know what my puppies father looked like and also their grandparents so we can only guess at what ours will look like when they are mature. He is a cutie and I hope you enjoy him a lot. Yorkie puppies look like doberman or rottweiler puppies in coloring (only smaller) and are so cute and change so often. I take pictures of my puppies all the time because I know they will not stay looking like this.

| Welcome to YT. Due to the massive picture lol, I don't see any white on this pup. My personal experience with 5 yorkies, 2 were black saddle, with auburn face and legs, one had a tuff of white hair on her chest, 3 were silver saddle with blonde to tan face and legs. Yorkie hair color changes from puppy hood to adult some yorkies at age 2 y/o the hair is still changing color. Hair coloring is also a genetic factor, generations back there could have been grandparents where a yorkie had white hair mixed in and this cropped up in the litter of pups you are looking at. Good breeders that breed for show quality pups check back up to 10 generations for genetic health, weight, size, etc. Back yard breeders breed for the buck and do NO generation check. If you can send better pictures it may help. To me if the yorkie is pure breed the color matters not to me, what matters is the health of the pup, personality. These yorkies capture ones heart, if you are looking for a pet and not one to breed, love this little guy for the pup that he is and will be.

| The colors will settle in throughout puppyhood. What you see now will change quite a bit over the next 16 months or so. Good looking little guy none the less!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT - glad you found us !! I'm so sorry for the loss of your Westie -- he sounded so precious to you. I'm sure he lived the very best life and he was clearly so well taken care of. I'm glad you have a new little fur ball to add to your life! He is just adorable!!! Too cute. This stage of color can be quite normal for many -- I've seen these colors end up both "blonde" and black and blonde/silvery...so you'll have to wait and see how it settles. A yorkie's color can change a lot the first couple years.
