| PSA Leaky Eyes I was recently at my local dog store and buying dog food I mentioned my yorkie has been having a lot of eye drainage. The girl working there mentioned the food I was feeding while a high quality food it did contain potatoes and potatoes cause yeast and yeast is what is being excreted from the eyes. I had never heard that but I did switch to a food not containing potatoes and her eyes have totally cleared up. It's been 4 days and it's a total difference. So just wanted to share in case someone else was dealing with something similar. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Okay...the nurse in me has to chuckle at this person at the store...bc potatoes do *not* cause yeast . Yeast is a fungus. Potatoes, basically being a simple carb, are "food" for yeast...just like any simple carb would be....but they cannot and do not cause yeast. Now, I will say that potatoes are known to be "inflammatory" for some...so perhaps this is what they are to your kiddo.

| Maybe I should rephrase my original post. I was trying to sum up a much longer conversation. Potatoes are contributing to yeast. So even though we weren't doing grains that some more starchy veggies could also be contributing to yeast and the food we were using was quite high in potatoes could totally be something else causing the eye goo but heck it's gone after switching tho food and they LOVE the new food. I tried to follow the rules and just mix a little of the new food into the old food and they individually picked only the new food and left the old food strewn all over the floor. |
