Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Travel sickness We are undertaking a 4/5 hour trip shortly with our 2 girls in a 2 seat sports car, roof down! The latest 'Holly' (all 4 pounds of her) seems totally relaxed in her mom's arms and takes it all in her stride! However our eldest 'Crystal', whilst she has improved since Holly arrived, still gets the shakes and is sick poor girl. I always carry plenty of fresh water to keep them hydrated and make sure the car is cool and ventilated by the air-con. Is there such a thing as 'Doggy Travel Pills' to relax them does anyone know and have you tried them? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You can get different meds from the vet to try for car sickness, it would def be worth it for your sick girl...especially for this long trip.

Crystal salivates at first then retches. We now don't feed her before travel, but 4 hours is a long time for a little system to bridge. I thought of getting up early and feeding her 2 hours before we leave with a light breakfast, adding some tablets to the meal as she hates pills. I plan to stop every 90 mins or so for water and a stretch also? Johnsons Travel-Eze Tablets | Johnsons | J | Brands A-Z | Petmeds.co.uk

My Dad's dog had car sickness its first year of life, and I wish I could recall what the vet prescribed bc it worked perfectly...maybe it was cerenia...? Or something similar perhaps. I've also heard that even Benadryl helps some dogs. Have you tried giving the pills w/ peanut butter at all...this works for my kiddos. But I know for some it just doesn't. Yup, we usually stop about every couple hours when we travel too...for potty breaks, water, and whatnot. Oh also, I always bring along an empty syringe in case I have to force water. Well, and I admit I bring along about 20 other dog-emergency things too ...like benadryl in case of stings or whatevs.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm getting the same, a little travel kit in a small black gladstone bag, I probably look a right quack! It's funny how they pant and won't drink, but after a taster of water on my fingers, the little one will drink. |

| I just asked my vet about this. She told me to not feed her for 2-4 hrs before hand and give her Benadryl. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Feed back We got there, bought our new home, and spent in total 3 nights away and drove over 700 miles. Both of them had diarreah the whole time. The little one in particular drunk well, which I was pleased with as she's only 4lbs in weight. We starved them both for 18 hours, then fed chicken and boiled rice with a little sweet potato. Semi diarrhea followed this morning. Very distressing, so we left them in the rented cottage for the latter two days, so as not to stress them too much we thought, whilst we viewed houses. Journey back 166 miles with three stops for water and a light lunch. Since our return, some loose tummy for the little one. Crystal holding her own! Both seemed ecstatic at returning, their real 'home-bugs' it seems. However the medication of half a tablet (see above) for Crystal's car sickness was a complete success, Holly was not sick at all and slept on the back in Irina's arms nearly the whole way back, totally relaxed. Crystal was on the center console (lion repose) head on my chest watching the way ahead and snoozing on and off, but managing to 'boff' at any dogs she saw in passing cars! I believe the diarrhea is stress based and hopefully normal service will be now resumed? |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | It's not getting better and both have now developed a little hacking cough as well. We're all off to the vet armed with a stool sample in an hours time... |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Vets prognosis We took a stool from Holly with a little blood wrapped mucus constituent. Collitis, was prescribed, probably from something they'd picked up walking. Treatment is anti-biotics twice a day for 7 days (liquid). In parallel with Royal Canin wet pet food / Sensitive Control and Pro-Kolin plus biotic for seven days. Temperatures were within normal range, around 38.8c / 102f. He said they were both healthy, good strong heart beat, very fit, particularly Crystal. No excess fat or weight. Crystal was 3.9kg and Holly 1.9kg. Apparently Crystal had slightly stressed tension around her stomach etc, but that relaxed as she got used to the examiner. Both were brilliantly behaved and our man got lots of licks and kisses. So hopefully with lots of TLC as well, they'll soon be back to normal? |

| Congratulations on your new home. I'm glad your girls did great in the car, but it must have been so awful with them being sick. Before Katie, we had three little Yorkie sisters who all had the same sire and were within a year of each other. We went away once, and they stayed with our closest friends for thirty five years. Our girls loved them, and they loved our girls. All three got sick within a day of our leaving. She took them to the vet, and he put them on Flagyl. We came home early. The next time we went away our dear friends stayed in our home instead of theirs, and it worked out better. Kiwi, our alpha, eventually ended up becoming so sensitive, and she got very depressed when we went away. She had chronic colitis, and we no longer could leave her, so we stopped going away unless our girls could go with us. It was a very small sacrifice to make for all the love they brought into our lives. I hope your girls will be back to normal soon. I give Katie probiotics daily. My dear friend was getting cut Tylan powder (small amount of Tylan mixed with unflavored Metameucil) from her vet to use when her dogs had upset stomachs. She only uses it for occasional issues but not if they are sick. It works great, but I check with my vet usually about most things.

Inside this lovely place, the doors are imported American walnut as is the beautiful fireplace surround and many other tasteful touches and additions. Best of all there's a stunning garden, 'Doggy secure', completely enlosed and private, so our young family can bounce around and play for all the rest of their days. I will never expose them to long away stays again, they're really happy in their home with mom and dad and staying away seems very stressful. For the love and great happiness they give me in the Autumn of my life I really wanted this new home, more for them and Irina than myself, because their happiness compliments mine too.
