| ![]() Hi there, Does anyone have recommendations on where I can keep my 2 girls while I'm out of town for 2 weeks next Fall? I thought I'd start the search early! My yorkies are about 3.5lbs and 11 years old. Both have some minor health issues, so I need a place that is on top of it. I also don't want them to mix with big dogs because they get scared. And lastly, they don't enjoy being outside, they prefer a soft pillow and air conditioning ![]() |

| ![]() Checking around, I see that there are plenty of highly rated boarding facilities in the Austin, TX area. However, if you need health care for them, you might consider boarding at a vet. Here is one that you can check out that seems to have good reviews: Austin Pet Boarding | Grooming in Austin, TX | Dog/Cat Boarding |

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() I must be crazy because I will not put my dogs in a kennel. I hire someone I know to watch my dogs if I can't be with them. That way they are either in my home or at a friend's home where I know they can get attention. I also watch my friend's dogs for them here and there and charge a reasonable price for them to be in my home and loved on and cared for. I think it makes being away from owners easier if they are with someone they know. Do you not have a friend or relative who might take them for you during this time? I have some neighbors I have knows for many years and usually their teenagers will come over to the house and stay most of the day with my dogs and take care of them and sometimes even stay at the house while I am gone. I take my Yorkies with me whenever I can though, but if I have to leave them I have them cared for in my house.

All of my friends/neighbors that I trust to watch my dogs have day jobs and would have to be away from my dogs for 8 hours at a time....nevermind their social lives and errands/gym/etc. other stuff they have to do. My dogs need to potty every 3 or 4 hours, so that won't work. Also, I would want someone around the clock to be with them in case they do have medical issues. One dog has a collapsed trachea, the other dog has a reverse sneeze. Both have arthritis and cornea problems. One just dislocated her shoulder last week because someone rang the doorbell and she ran to the door and wiped out...fell and pulled something. Luckily the xrays show no breaks. But, these dogs are just so fragile. I travel with my dogs as much as possible, but we are going overseas in the Fall, and it's just not possible to take them. YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() I am a stay at home mom, so when I have my friends dogs, I am only gone long enough to run errands, pick up kids, etc. They get excellent care at my house. Wish I was closer, I would gladly watch them for you and see that they got excellent care while with me. I forget that some people's actually have lives I guess. My life revolves around my family which includes my husband, kids and dogs. Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you. I would probably look into a regular boarding facility. We have one here that is really nice. They take excellent care of the doggies. I have gone to training classes there so have met the staff and seen the facilities, although I have never used them personally. A pet hotel might be a good idea and they should have camera's where you can check on your babies, I know a lot of them do.

Dog Boarding - Austin Pet Ranch The only reason I suggested boarding at a vet is so that the dogs' special veterinary needs can be attended to. That's why I suggested this facility: Austin Pet Boarding | Grooming in Austin, TX | Dog/Cat Boarding At any rate, I hope the OP is able to find a facility that meets her dogs' needs and won't be stressful for them. | |
