| Reminder about mats between the pads of there paws Just wanted to post a reminder to check between the pads of your babies paws and to remember to trim the hair there. I was bathing Callie and Sammy today and went to wash Sammy's paw and something felt weird between the pads of his paw but I couldn't see it and check it out well in the tub so I checked it when he was dry. I could not figure out what it was because he would jerk his paw away and would not let me look. Well I tried with my mom helping and no luck. My dad was able to look and said he felt like it was a mat but before just cutting it he wanted to make sure so he gently used a comb and got it where he could cut it and it was really big. It looks like when he decided to dig the other day that maybe dirt caked in the hair making it mat easier. It could not have been comfortable. So just remember to check those little paws!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I do not trim their paws at all and have never had any issues or problems. The hair is there to protect the tender paw areas, so I leave it alone...and it trims itself down naturally via walking around / activity. Still though, it's important to check the paw areas for mats, foreign objects, etcetera - just in case.

| I have to trim Teddy's paws constantly. His hair just grows and grow. Fortunately, he is purely silky coated so never mats. I've never had to trim Daisy or Barney and Winston is kind of in the middle.

I think that it truly depends upon the dog. How much hair they are actually growing between their paw pads. While Yorkies are usually not a heavy coated breed - they still can easily accumulate debris and *stuff* between their paw pads. I always trim the paw pads of all my dogs. I use a clipper to do so.

| Whenever I am doing a clipping of Bentley's ears, nails and trimming around his feet..I always take my trimmer and clip in between his foot pads. Taylor, I am glad you checked, found the knot and removed it.
