| Tick Prevention We gave Baxter the med prevention oil between his shoulder blades once - he began to act almost as if he were becoming paralyzed - he got all stiff legged and confused looking. Scared me to high heaven and have not given him a tick prevention medication since (that was four years ago). Since that time we do the "tick hunt" several times a day. Baxter seems to enjoy these tick hunts and he simply lays there, I swear with a smile on his face, as we rummage through his fur and every crook and cranny looking for those little blood sucking scavengers. We tell him "let's look for ticks" and he lays down immediately - he loves it! We live in a high tick area - with deer ticks. They are so tough to find and worry always. I would love to find out what others use during the tick season. |

| We are using the Preventic collar. We use it with Sentinel to cover fleas. We also live in a high tick area and this has been recommended to me as being the safest and most effective option. It's cheaper too. We used frontline for over a decade but it's supposedly no longer working well in our area.

| I have found that using the flea comb is the only way to keep ticks from getting on Gracie. The tick preventative medications do not prevent the ticks from attaching to the body. We always keep Gracie out of the tall grass and the woods during tick season. Thankfully, we don't have them in our lawn so she can walk the trails and play in the yard without getting them. Before I bring her in after being outside I run the flea comb through her hair making sure that it reaches to the skin where ticks and fleas like to hide. As yet I have not found one on her but I'm not going to take a chance. We used the Frontline flea and tick product for cats on our indoor outdoor cats and they still came home with engorged ticks on them. It seemed as though the ticks loved the stuff. We have woods around our home and fields farther off that the cats love to hunt in but those are apparently breeding places for ticks where I live. So before they are allowed inside they get the flea comb (which they have come to love) and I have a tick puller right beside the comb. The tick preventative may eventually kill the tick but they still get a chance to engorge themselves on our pet's blood so what is the sense in it? The idea is not to let the ticks get hooked them to start with! Once an infected tick bites an animal they can get sick even if the tick dies later on. We haven't had any deer ticks here and I hope they don't get this far but I read somewhere that they are moving closer to our area. |

| I use the oil spot on treatment. But I just reacently bought the espree flee and tick spray it was on a supper sale so I thought I would just get it. Have any if you guys every used this before? I know espree is a good brand I tried some of their holiday scented shampoos and love them this is kind off the flee and tick topic but I was wondering if it is necessary to have your dogs on heart worm prevention I just switched vet and she mentioned it none of my other vets mention it before. Thanks so much good luck with the flea and tick season

| We use Sentinel for Bubba and Sissy. Bubba is fine but Sissy runs around trying to rub it off. I found a tick wandering around on Bubba the other day after we had been out for a walk. It hadn't latched on yet. Allieoop-we use to have a Bichon and every day we would ask him, "do you have bugs?" and he would roll over on his back and put his legs in the air for a check.

| I use Sentinel Spectrum and Frontline plus. YB2. You asked about heart worm meds. Most vets suggests one does use them, as heartworm can be deadly and is hard to cure and horrible treatment for the dog. But there are other parasites that the HW meds deal with, such as tapeworm and hookworm, and these need to be prevented too. If you get HW meds I would check what parasites they cover, as they are not all equal. I chose Sentinel Spectrum (oral) as it seemed to have the most coverage. It also kills flea eggs and larvae, but not adult fleas or ticks. Thus the topical FL Plus. |

| Yb2 Good luck on your ultimate decision. I am sorry I do not know what a vaccine gap for HW is? It's a new phrase on me . Sorry I can't help there. |
