I use Sentinel Spectrum and Frontline plus.

YB2. You asked about heart worm meds. Most vets suggests one does use them, as heartworm can be deadly and is hard to cure and horrible treatment for the dog. But there are other parasites that the HW meds deal with, such as tapeworm and hookworm, and these need to be prevented too. If you get HW meds I would check what parasites they cover, as they are not all equal. I chose Sentinel Spectrum (oral) as it seemed to have the most coverage. It also kills flea eggs and larvae, but not adult fleas or ticks. Thus the topical FL Plus.
