| I wish my vet had laser surgery but they don't, just the old fashioned scalpel kind but they do use dissolvable stitches . I am getting my baby spayed next week. She weighs 4 lbs. Does anyone know what size onesie I should buy for her in case she bothers her stitches? I also didn't know they couldn't go up or down stairs for 5 days. Duncan didn't have any restrictions for stairs when he was neutered. Good thing I come on the forum I am not looking forward to Elliot being spayed either. I arranged to have the next day off of work so I can watch her.

That sounds good. I watched her like a hawk to see what she'd do till bed time. Surprisingly she left it alone, and awake off and on. They don't want to miss a thing. Sleeping in playpen beside me , I was able to keep an eye on her, I'm such a light sleeper.....in morning after a bit though she had nose down there naturally. A few days before , I practiced putting the onesie on her and taking it off and having her et the feel of it.She wanted to whip out of it every time but if I wanted her to hold still it was like a straight jacket, she froze! Didn't like it. So since she isn't jumpy and runny yet I'll wait . what I did do was cut a strip of her favorite thin receiving blanket , just wide enough to cover her belly and just long enough to wrap around her and taped it together with shipping tape! That stuff is stickier than scotch tape. It's like , oh what do you call it when you wrap a newborn up ?! Can't think......any way she loved it! And it's breathable.. Oh swaddling ! lol I was pretty proud of myself for thinking of that but after I write it down it sounds pretty barbaric! Lol

Well look at it this way, there was the scalpel before the laser and that worked. Better that than not at all.....a lot of people like the cones too. Size depends on length of dog. Zoey was a tiny and had preemie size....Izzy is longer so she took infant , one size up...and it depends on the brand. Walmarts carters are real narrow , but the other brand they carry..ohhhh...ummmmm....?!??....was wider. Compare......get her used to it too...i haven't used mine yet..... I'm going to have fun keeping Izzy down too....

| Spay We just had Bella fixed on 5-28 Thursday. She is 3lb and had scalpel with glued incision. She is doing well but flippppps out with the cone. We could not do it because she was hurting herself. I had not heard of doing a onesie. Great idea! We have resorted to using a 2 inch medical tape that is thick, flexable and stretchy. It sticks to itself so it is like a loose by stationary band around her tummy. Her incision is super ichy right now so I think it is healing. Glad your little one is doing well. No one commented on stairs??? We are helping her when we can catch her. She is up and moving so quick. Thanks |
