YT 2000 Club Donating Member | My dog is not my Pet !!!! I know this is a commonly used phrase but so lacking to describe what a dog is and can be to their owner guardian and partner. I think the term pet is quite well frankly dismissive. My dogs are working partners in my life. My dogs are obedience trained and love to work with me. My dogs aid and support my life in so many many ways. My untitled service dog will pull me in my wheelchair - will hold me if I should fall and need to get up with some assistance. My dogs are my friends, my companions and fulfill a much needed role in my life. ' They are not JÙST PETS They are not after thoughts - that I feed and bring to the vets. They are an integral part of my life and one of my raison d'etre So don't own a pet own or be the caretaker of your 4 legged partner in life.

| I share the sentiments, but I think "pet" can also be seen as a word that does not diminish the importance of our four legged family members. In fact, it could be seen to give them status. I wouldn't mind the treatment or the status my little guy has in my family, and I might use the word pet. |

| I never thought of that before. In our family the term "my pet" is actually meant as an endearment. My grandmothers and parents, aunts and uncles and now even I use it when referring to younger loved ones Maybe its an Irish thing.. Its funny, because I don't like calling them dogs..haha..I KNOW they are, but its kind of the same thing..thats why I call them my babies, or pups etc..sometimes I guess I actually say dogs and pets, but I always do feel thats not enough of a "love title"..Oh I am tired. I'm babbling..lol. |

| I see the word "pet" as a term of endearment at times. It used to be quite commonly used for significant others, wives, husbands.... not so much now.. something to do with political correctness. I don't hug a pet turtle, but I do hug our pet dogs.... I also have no problem with the term "it". Others, find that very offensive and I don't understand why. The Webster or Oxford definitions are clear about "it". I also understand everyone is entitled to an opinion and I respect that they have one. LOL Just, don't force them on me and we'll be fine! LOL |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I do know many folks don't feel the same way - and there are linguistic differences country to country never mind state to state. I don't think that I have ever deliberately referred to my dogs as pets *shrugs* I might have and I have certainly answered a questioned posed like how many pets do you have - to which I normally respond I have 3 dogs and one cat (well did have 1 cat). I do know that pet seems to me to such an inadequate term for the breadth and depth of what our relationship is with our beloved animal.

| Pet I think of the word pet as a generalized term of endearment for any animal one keeps in one's home as part of the family. Certainly does not diminish the animal's status! I tend to use the words dog, boy, baby, pet etc according to the context in which I use the word. But thanks for your views, never really thought deeply about the word pet before |

| I had never really thought about it before but I realize now I have never called Mia or my precious Zoey, my pets. That word is not enough. They are my girls, my princesses, my Mia or my Zoey. They are members of my family and precious to me. I believe I would jump into a raging river to save them. Can't say about a burning building but probably. Pet does not say enough. |
