I do know many folks don't feel the same way - and there are linguistic differences country to country never mind state to state.


I don't think that I have ever deliberately referred to my dogs as pets *shrugs* I might have and I have certainly answered a questioned posed like how many pets do you have - to which I normally respond I have 3 dogs and one cat (well did have 1 cat).


I do know that pet seems to me to such an inadequate term for the breadth and depth of what our relationship is with our beloved animal.
