Default What is the age of your longest living yorkie?

My husband and I were talking about how we want Guinness to live for many many years! He is 6 this summer. It got me thinking that I wanted to hear about some of the longer living yorkies out there... I'd love to hear about your own experience with ripe old ages or of some you've known about. Thanks!

I lost my Bear 6 months ago. He was 12 days away from his 15th birthday. My girl, Haley will be 14 in May and still plays like she's 4. We have one that comes into the vet clinic I work at that's almost 17!

Yorkie- 18 years, about 5lbs. As a puppy he had some sort of liver problem and was sent home to die, he recovered and never had another problem, idk what was wrong. He was fed beneful and mighty dog and some people food. He only had problems for the last year or so, lost control of his bladder and was senile, we had him put to sleep when he lost control of his bowels. He did many things that should have killed him over the years, peeing on the light socket, walking off the deck into the recycling bin (senile), and other things.

Mutt- 18, about 30lbs, we had her at the same time as the yorkie. She was very healthy until the end, her decline was over a few days. Prior to that her only problem was fatty tumors. We had her put to sleep, she couldn't move, panting, confused.

Poodle- 14.5, 13lbs. Healthy except for fatty tumors, declined over one day. We don't know what happened. Her whole life she acted like an old lady.

Poodle- 15.5, 13lbs littermate with the other poodle. She had epilepsy and the last 1.5 years had CHF. Prior to the CHF she ran around and bounced like a puppy.

We've been very lucky and I hope our luck continues.

I love this thread, it's so much better than those what's the smallest yorkie thread! I've heard of many who live 15 years, but I have no idea what's the age of the oldest.

Almost five years ago, my last Yorkie, Ashley, passed away one month shy of her seventeenth birthday. Ashley and I walked at least two miles a day, weather permitting, until two days before she passed away. She was a very special, precious little girl who we deeply miss.

Wow, how inspiring, I'm sure that walking helped, and I think I'm going to go take my babies for a walk right now!

My first yorkie passed last October at 16 years, 8 months. He got Valley Fever when he was 9 months old and it became chronic so his immune system was trashed. He then had liver issues from the antifungal meds, and in his later years was diagnosed with kidney disease. He was like the energizer bunny and just kept going and going. We finally let him go because his arthritis had become quite painful. Still miss that little guy but he lived a long, full and happy life.

This is great. My first yorkie only lived to be 4 and died from GME. I hope Emma lives a long a happy life. I know our breeder had a yorkie in her line that was still living but ill when we picked Emma up. I think he was about 18.

My little boy left us at one week past his 7th birthday from GME. I was heartbroken. Have a 12 week old now. My breeder also has a little girl 15 yrs.
Vet said she should have passed last December, but she's still going. Thank the Lord.

There have been some very encouraging responses! We lost Bella last year unexpectedly...we think she was around 9 but did not have a definite age for her when we got her. Like everyone else who has experienced this loss it was complete heartbreak for us. Guinness has definitely been a blessing! We hope he lives a very full and happy life (at least 25 years!). We want him to break records .

My last yorkie passed away at 13 years old. She had a rough start in life and I am convinced that if I had her she from the time she was a puppy she would of lived longer.

Her previous owners did not take care of her at all. By the time I got her she had so many health issues. They never took her to the vet and I had to get all of her teeth extracted.

I still miss her and think about her everyday.

This was a problem for us with Bella...she had many issues from neglect before we got her...I feel like she would have been so much healthier if we had her from the start. Now I fear this with Guinness as he was in awful shape when we got him...he had 20 teeth removed a couple of weeks ago and the vet said poor nutrition and lack of care during his first 5+ years were contributions. Other than the dental he seems to be in good health so we are hopeful that we can make sure he is much better off!

My last girl Matese had to be put down at age 17 y/o 2 months after her 17th birthday. She was a big girl, 17 lbs. She was playful as a puppy and still a very mischievous little tease until age 15 1/2 when she began to loose her sight, even then she was playful, but in a diff. way. She found new ways of playing with me while loosing her sight, dementia (although I did not know at the time that is what she had, I learned here on YT well after she left me,)set in about 16 y/o. She would some how get between the kitchen chairs, get under the table and could not get out, became confused, or end up in a corner, confused, not able to get out, but I never knew it was dementia, I would get her out of these places, she would lick my face for saving her lol, I loved her more at this senior time of her life. Her eyes although she had lost 85 % of her sight were still bright black, sparkling and shiny, you would never know she had lost so much of her vision, her hearing was also about 90% gone. Her hair was still shiny black and healthy, you would never know she was 17 y/o. Incontinence started at appox. 16 y/o. Two months after her 17th birthday she didn't eat for one day and had diarrhea , this was not like her to not eat, day 2 she didn't eat, was drinking water, still had diarrhea, I offered her boiled boneless chic cutlets, always my test, she refused it, I took her to the vet, she never came home, I was devastated beyond words, she was fine one day, sick the next day, came on sudden and unexpected. I miss that little girl 18 moths later. I cried for days and weeks asking God why did he take her, then he gave me my Cody. It is heart breaking to see a baby you had from 8 weeks old to a senior of 17, for me my love deepened for her and I wish she was still here with me now.
