| An Embarrassed Pit Bull And It's Vicious Owner Or, "The Vicious Old Yorkie" Here's sort of, only sort of, a funny experience to lighten the mood some. Last Summer I was walking 4 1/2 pound Gucci in a park, a large pit was with it's owners at the water's edge, I walked as far away from them as the shoreline, lawn and bushes allowed in order to pass them. An ample distance. As we passed, the pit, with this big stick in it's mouth, started walking our way, I moved between the pit and Gucci, Gucci is usually on my left, the pit was still 10 feet away. I didn't say a word. The woman owner spouted out, "he's not vicious", I responded with "it sorta looks it".... and we continued walking on our way when she yelled "your dog looks like the vicious one"... I stopped, looked down at this 4 1/2 pound elderly dog that hardly ever barks and certainly didn't bark today, then looked back at her and her boyfriend, he looked mortified and embarrassed, even the pit looked embarrassed at what it's owner had just said, I just shook my head and started walking again... I was sorta pissed and sorta laughing at the same time.... she was obviously off her meds! LOL After what she said, I was simply speechless. Last edited by MarkFromSea; 03-16-2015 at 12:48 AM. |

| LOL - cute, cute story. I've seen embarrassed dogs before and no matter what anyone says - dogs know and feel embarrassment!!! They act just the same as humans do, downward head, tight, controlled movements of the face, mouth, darting looks at you with their eyes, then averting them, and slightly turning the face aside. If a dog could, I think he'd put his fingers to his face or hands over his face as some embarrassed people do! I've never seen it but I've heard some dogs can sort of blush, though not sure that is associated with their embarrassment. With his mommie snarking out like that in public to a stranger, no wonder poor pittie was embarrassed.

| I think it was about that moment that the pit dropped the stick as it's jaw dropped to the lawn. LOL Like he was saying, "no, she didn't just say that" LOL. |

| I worry when we pass any dog too closely because my Daisy gets aggressive. She doesn't care how big the dog is she is ready to take it on. She can usually get the calmest dog stirred up. So I can't trust anyone's friendly dog around her. If we pick up Daisy (I pick her up before she goes berzerk so the other dog stays calm) and stop and talk to the person Daisy will calm down and then she can usually get down and greet the other dog very slowly. I wish I could figure out how to stop the behavior. I used to use a clicker and have her sit and reward her with a small treat when the other dog passed by and it worked great. But now she is on a diet and can't have the treats so I don't know what to do. Gucci sounds adorable.

| Thanks, he's slowing down quite a bit but still has walks on better weather type days. I can't remember if I posted these photos here or not. They are the most recent. Here's Gucci(the yorkie) and Zippy, Zippy has been with us nearly 4 months. He's turned out to be the perfect dog, well, he doesn't fetch, but, other than that, he's perfect. I think I did post these here already. Last edited by MarkFromSea; 03-16-2015 at 02:16 AM. |

| I will. There are some great trainers on this site. I hope they will have some suggestions.

| They are pretty close now. Gucci is the boss, Zippy respects that and even seems to realize Gucci is a bit on the delicate side so no rough house playing but plenty of attention. Gucci sits on top of Zippy daily when Zippy is laying down. I haven't managed to get a good picture of it yet. |

| I think we got very lucky with our new addition. He growled a lot at passing dogs originally. I would softly say no, he would stop growling so I followed it up with praise after the dog encounter passed. He doesn't growl at passing dogs now. We're nearly at the 100% leash free phase, busy streets only. Depending on the weather, near daily walks, some days a dozen encounters with other dogs. |

| Had a guy today to come and do an estimate on moving a shed from our yard to the neighbors (we r moving) and hubby was with winnie out in the yard to let her potty...of course she comes barking at the fence, jamie calls her to leave it, she runs inside....in all seriousness he says "ok is the vicious dog put away?" (Barely 4# mind you)....my response was "if u saw that little thing as vicious I'd hate to see what you think of my sweet husky"...he was quick to stop in his tracks and say "is that one put away?!" Some people just aren't dog people I guess
