Senior Yorkie Talker | Help Please!!! I will be getting my yorkie this Saturday and was wondering if it's ok to start training her to potty outside? She is 8 weeks old and will have had her 1st round of shots. I have heard that they can't go outside or around other dogs until they're fully vaccinated. If I start her on the pads indoors, will it be a hard transition to outdoors when she is ready? Any positive advice would be greatly appreciated!! |

| It would really best for her to stay with the breeder until 12 weeks. If you are taking her out to your yard and other dogs and lots of wild animals can't get to it and there is no standing water you should be ok. But getting her to early from the breeder like 8 weeks could lead to bigger problems.

I don't think the transition will be difficult. Yes, wait until she is fully vaccinated and then you may be happy she is used to a pad if you ever have a winter like we just did. I would wipe the grass in the spot you want her to go each time you go out with her pad that has the scent of her urine. Do this a few times until she catches on. Good Luck! There will be other ideas too, I am sure.

| Get an expen, put her potty pad and bed and water in that so she has a safe place to hang out just like she would with a reputable breeder. Make sure she is eating etc. At 8 weeks she needs to just be warm, safe and nourished. I wouldn't let her touch the ground unless it's a very clean area in your own yard until she is fully vaccinated. Potty pads make life much easier and it's not that hard to transition to outdoor. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Shelbysmom... I bought a mini playpen for her.. I will definitely do as you stated to keep her safe. I'm not going to take her outdoors to potty until she is fully vaccinated. I don't want her to get sick in any way. Thank you for the advice, it's greatly apperciated.
