| silly question? i have this *thing* about male dogs (even small animals!). maybe its childish but i really want an opinioun on this. my best friend's dad has a male dog. its an american cocker spaniel. if i remember correctly. being a boy it has boy parts. we all love the dog to pieces. is it normal to get uncomfortable around the boy parts?? ive had a handful of hamsters since i was little and i always got a girl because the boys have the boyparts. it just seems gross to me. my sisters and my best friends feel the same way. we all get the "ew gross" face around them. theyre cute and everything but we all just get uncomfortable once the boy parts are exposed! both of my sisters have human children and between the 2 of them there are 4 boys and 2 girls. so its not that we dont like boys just not boy animals. i dont want to say that we treat them differently because i guess on some level we do. playing with a male dog is fine and dandy. and we still give lots of belly rubs we just try to avoid that whole area. also how can i explain this to a breeder without sounding like a twit?? |

| boy parts If you are not comfortable with "boy" parts..simply tell a breeder you want a female, because you pefer a female. I never try to talk anyone into a sex they do not want. If a breeder asked you why you perfer a female, simply say you enjoy everything "girlie"..and want a girl...if a breeder can not respect your perference then look elsewhere. If I was buying a pet, I would ask for a female and that is purely my business. I will not question price, just allow me to buy what I want..okay? Boys are terrific, but sometimes you just want what you want! LOL |

| I have a boy and I love him to death. If your really uncomfortable around boy parts then definitely don't get a boy. Its up to you and you should be comfortable with your furbaby. I personally never thought about it but everyone has something that grosses them out and sometimes its just hard to get over.

| What a cute thread and I find it normal to have preferences over one gender to the next. I must say...Most my life I have had female pets with no real reason as to why. Recently adopting Ransom my little male I will admit, I find the entire belly rubbing experience different. LOL !! With Schatzie I just rub rub rub and even stick my mouth on her belly and blow like you would a human baby. But....well, so often now w/ Ransom I go to rub his belly and find myself saying to him, "excuse me didn't mean to violate you there!". And most likely he will not ever get any belly kiss blows as I do Schatzie, hahahaha. But ooohhhhh how I love my little boy!!

| I agree with everyone, it's just a matter of preference I for one love my male yorkie, Miko, and have no problems at all with the "male parts", but I grew up with mostly male dogs as pets growing up.

| I understand you totally because I have the exact same problem! lol.I have 2 female yorkies because the thought of a male humping and seeing his "lipstick" has always sent shivers down my spine (even as a child I never liked any animal that was male). I try not to let it bother me but it does and I cant help it.I do have a male cat,but to be honest I dont let him in my bedroom when we arent here because Im affraid he hump our pillows etc,I keep him in the kitchen when we arent home. My mother in law offered me one of her male german sheppard puppies as a gift last week and I would have LOVED to have brought him home because is adorable!,but deep inside I knew that him being a "him" was going to be a problem in the future because I just dont like the things the males do (or maybe the things I think they´ll do?)...the leg hiking REALLY bothers me even when Im in the street and I see a dog that isnt mine do it,I just think "eeeewwwww!!",even though I know that the poor things dont know how to pee any way else lol. The humping is another thing that I cant stand,I know that females do it too but nothing pops out (if you know what I mean) and Im fine with it then. But males to me just seem a little to uninhibited (sp?)..I think Im just paranoid lol. Im the same with male humans though,Iv always thought "eeewwwwww!!" when I think of the things they do..maybe my nan sung the song "what are little girls made of" to me too many times..lol. |

| If that's how you feel, just make it clear to a breeder you want a female. I got my male first (I don't have your problem though lol it doesn't bother me), and soon after realized I wanted to maybe breed someday and not even at that, I wanted a little girl to dress up in everything we sale in our boutique! haha A good breeder will respect what you want and work with you. Just know that sometimes it takes longer to get a female rather than a male as they are in a higher demand and typically, more males are born than females.

| I wouldn't call it not normal - the way you feel. But I have never heard anyone say such a thing before. What bothers you (and your sisters) is something that has never entered my mind. My little Yorkie's boy parts (as you call them) hardly even show up. His entire little tummy (to me) is soft and cuddly - not something that would ever bother me. You don't have to explain anything to a breeder. Most people looking for a puppy have a gender preference. And, you obviously prefer girls, so get a girl! Carol Jean PS - It's a good thing you're a girl - or you'd have a problem (ha ha)...... |
