| My baby yorkie (10 weeks) doesn't eat much Hey guys, I've recently gotten a baby yorkie girl for my birthday. I brought her home about 2 days ago from the pet store, and ever since I got her, she barely eats. I was told by the lady at the store to feed her twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. She told me to mix 1/8 of a cup of her dry puppy food with a little bit of chicken and cheese. But whenever I feed my pup, she barely wants to eat. She eats maybe a teaspoon and a half of food that I have to hand feed her, then she refuses to have more. I've been giving her a little bit of karo syrup to keep her sugar levels up, but I am not sure if this little eating amount is normal? She weighs two pounds and She seems very happy and excited throughout the day and is in no way lethargic. I am just very worried that she is not eating enough or if anyone has any recommendations on how to get her to eat. Thanks so much, Sean |

| Hi Sean. Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on your new puppy! Puppies need to eat more than twice a day, especially when they are as small as yours. Often free feeding (leaving kibble out all day) is recommended. She might also just be settling into her new home. It is not that unusual for them to not eat as much the first few days. I had to hand feed Max his first year. Yorkies can be challenging. Have you taken your baby to the vet for a routine puppy wellness check?

YT 1000 Club Member | I gave Rasta Nutrical his first few months to stimulate his appetite and to keep his sugars level. Is the chicken and cheese mix exactly what the breeder was feeding her? Since she's so young I'd suggest free feeding where she can grab and go as she pleases. When she's older you could have set feeding times if you prefer. Has she had her checkup? I'd love to see pics! |

| How old is this puppy? I would suggest you feed the baby Royal Canin puppy food (canned), and the gradually switch over to the Royal Canin puppy kibble, which is tiny and easier to chew than the adult kibble. Most dogs love the taste of Royal Canin and that baby needs to be eating MUCH more frequently than twice a day! If the baby is less than 14 weeks old, you should be feeding the canned puppy food every four hours, and free feeding the kibble.Up until 12 weeks old I am still giving my babies warm goats milk as their final meal for the night, around 10pm.....that helps keep them off momma so much during the night, they all go to sleep with full tummies, and they sleep most of the night, eating just once from momma during the night (early morning feeding), which my mommas appreciate help with the weaning!!! | I have always gave Poppy kibble, Royal Canin Junior Mini and the Yorkie Puppy one mixed. She recently decided to stop eating it and we went 2 days with no food at all. At which point I freaked and got wet food to drizzle over the top. She now gets kibble at breakfast and lunch and she picks at it. At dinner she gets her half cup kibble (sometimes slightly more) and I take a spoonfull of the wet food put a bit of water in and really mix it through. She scoffs the lot!! I have started putting the wet food in her kong too, means she gets about 2 meals a day as opposed to none! The vet has said with what is in the Royal Canin that is enough!! |

| Thanks so much for the responses! I really appreciate it! I think that I will definelty pick up some Royal Canin canned food. I have been hand feeding her quite a bit and she is still just eating about a teaspoon each time. I also plan on taking her to the vet sometime this week to have a check up. Also, I am wondering what yall recommend to do at night. Should I let her sleep in her crate, or should I make a little pen area with her bed? I am very new to all of this so any input is apreciated! Thanks so much, Sean |
