| My first real yorkie Help Im very overwhelmed. My breeder gave me so much info. He also gave us a lot of stuff. Different kinds of food and stuff to put in her water for her teeth and nutrical. He was very thorough and went over everything, but it was so much to take in. My playpen was supposed to be here but it won't be here until Friday. She's 2 lbs 8 ounces. He said to keep food and water with her at all times. I don't know if I should pee pad train or try to take her outside (she's so little!) I'm not a first time dog owner but this little girl seems to require so much more. What are the basics? I know what to watch for as far as hypoglycemia and fever etc. Im going to go to walmart and buy a big storage tub to put her in until the playpen comes in. Is there anything else I need to see to for her immediate needs? She's a parti. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Your baby is adorable but you can relax a little. While she may require a little extra care, you don't need to stress out. There is a lot of info. On the site that you can search for and someone on here has recommended Yorkie's For Dummies several times. I wish I could remember their name (sorry). Anyway, enjoy your new baby. All will be well😀 Welcome to YT! |

| Congratulations. Your little girl is so precious. If you have any questions, you will get a lot of support from this community. I've had Yorkies in my life for close to forty years, first with my mom, and five since I've been married. Before Katie, I had three little girls who all had the same sire. I'm still learning everyday, even after all of these years with these special pups. I wish you health, love, laughter, and happiness with your little girl. Not knowing if any animals come into your yard, I would probably train her using washable pee pads first, since she doesn't have all of her shots. You can also use them as a backup, even if you train her to go outside. I got Katie from her breeder when she was three. She was impeccably trained. My husband is home with her all day, but he is unable to take her out. I was worried about her having to hold it if she needed to go to the bathroom, and after being gone for ten hours a couple of days after she joined our family, I put a reusable pad down. I worried far less worried about being gone so long. Katie still prefers to go outside. Either way, with lots of consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, your beautiful little get trained.

| Your little girl is cute as can be. Congrats on a very cute yorkie. I have had 3 yorkies in the last 11 years. I currently have 2, one is about 9 yrs old and the othe is about 1 yr old. Last April my best yorkie friend passed away. He was 2.5 lbs at 10 yrs old so I have some experience with small dogs. The main thing I focused on with him was that he ate 2 or 3 times per day. Being that small he did not eat much, but I made sure he ate. I gave him dog food both dry and moist, but, when did not eat that sometimes, I resorted to anything he would take as advised by a vet. My go to for him was cheese, his favorite. However, chicken and rice worked well too. With all my dogs, they do not go outside, unless I take them out on a leash. Being small dogs, many things outside can be a danger. I guess I am a bit protective of my buddies. And in the house we do the "yorkie shuffle" so we don't accidentally step on small paws. I hope this helps. Dr Bob

| Your little one is really adorable. No worries, whatever questions you may have, you will get them all answered. So far I've owned two yorkies. My first one was a rescue from a back yard breeder. This site actually helped me turn her from a small skittish little thing into a diva (I say that lovingly) RIP Brandi Anyways, my current yorkie (adopted) is trained to use potty pads and go outside. It works for me and surprisingly it doesn't confuse her. Find something that works for the both of you. I know some yorkies won't go outside and some prefer to go outside. In time you will figure it out. And once again, congrats on your new baby |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Your little one is just adorable!!! I totally understand feeling overwhelmed...they're so little and precious, and you want everything to be just right. Take some breaths and just know that all will be okay. Keep her warm, safe, fed, watered, played with, loved, held - and her life will be perfect. Walmart also sells the Iris pen, which is what I used and it was perfect!! Btw, if I had it to do over again...I'd never pad train - I'd do outside only.

| I agree... I would grate train for outside. I can not have any throw rugs in my house because my yorkie was potty trained to pee pads and she thinks they are pee pads....i guess. |

| Lots of good advice. Thanks everyone. So far things are going well. She actually played with me today. She ate her breakfast and shes peeing and drinking and she had a bowel movement. She still has her shaky whiny moments but I don't mind as long as she is ok. So far I'm loving pee pads. With my other dogs we crate trained and I had to wake up at night and take them out. I cant imagine waking to take her out at night with as often as she pees. I don't see how y'all did it. Plus I don't want to take her outside a lot right now. We will see how it goes as time passes. I totally get small dog syndrome now. Shes like a completely different creature to me than my bigger dog. I hope she doesn't become a terror. I have her sitting inside my shirt right now |
