| Help My Princess has very dry skin I have a 7month old little yorkie girl, her name is princess. Just a couple of weeks she started scratching on her little thighs really bad, to the point where she hardly has scratched all her hair out. I've tooken her to her vet several times, everything he has given her is not working. I'm desperate I don't know what to do. The last time I took her the vet gave her medicine but turned around in a couple of days and took princess of that medicine I did not like the way she was reacting to it she was not herself. Please any one!! Any advise. Im a first timer it's our first pet ever.

| They actually make spray or lotion for itchy skin. I would try that. You might want to try a more gentle shampoo, too. I am sure you have ruled out fleas, but might want to watch for that. What do you feed her? Have you changed shampoo or food recently? Yorkie's can be a little sensitive that way.

| ? What do you feed her? Could it be an allergy? How often do you bathe her? What products do you use on her? Any changes in diet lately?

| I have changed her shampoo several times. This last time I took her to the vet he said to use baby shampoo, I used johnson & johnson shampoo. I feed her pedigree for puppy's, that's what she's been on ever since we brought her home.

| You might try a pet shampoo for sensative skin. I did that when Bronx kept scratching his ear. He actually had an ear infection, but I tried everything to stop the scratching.

| ? Have you ever thought of changing her to a premium puppy food? Like Innova or something such as that? I am not an expert but it sounds like she has had to much change to her shampoos. ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY IDEA?

| I bathe her once a week or once every two weeks it depends how dirty she gets. I know when I got her from the breeder she was feeding her eukanuba. I honestly don't know what else to do. Her vet told me of the itchying does not go away in a weeks or so he wants to take a skin graph of her to test it. I rather try everything else than to have to put her threw that

| Please forgive if I sound dumb, but I've never heard of that puppy food, can I find it at the general pet stores. I've only changes her shampoo two times before I started to use the baby shampoo, the previous one was for sensitive skin.

| I hope that this will be of some help to you. I feed my gizmo science diet. It's not cheap, but well worth the price. I have noticed a huge difference in his coat, and teeth since he has been on this. I also think that science diet makes a food just for dogs with allergies. But first things first, you have got to stop bathing her so much.. You really should try bathing her just once or twice a month, in very luke warm, almost cool water. I learned this when I worked for a vet. You don't want to use anything warmer than that because that itself is very drying to the skin. Also I would try to use a good oatmeal shampoo on her when you do have to bathe her. As for her getting dirty between baths, I use a wet wash cloth to clean gizmo's face, and paws, booty, etc. Dogs skin is much more sensitive than human skin. And PH levels in human shampoo is too strong for dogs. I hope that this could be of some help.. Good luck!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | To add the the good advise you already have....When my Chanel itched from being outside playing in the water hose everyday one summer - I tried a Spray on called "Veternarians Best - Moisture Mist SKIN Conditioner" - I sprayed some on her while she was wet and didn't wash it out - she never has itched another day since....when I see any scratching - I spray a little on her and it really helps... It's a SKIN Conditioner - not a hair conditioner and Petco sells it for about 8 $$ |

| A number of things here: 1. Dog Food - You do not want dog food that has corn or cornmeal in it as it can cause skin allergies. I believe Science Diet does but not 100% sure...read the label. Check out Natural Balance food. I use Innova Evo has it has no grains what so ever. There are a ton of threads on YT discussing foods. 2. Shampoo's can affect the dogs skin..what are you using? I use coathandlers shampoo and conditioner and I love it. 3. What are you cleaning your floors with? A couple of my dogs has serious problems with PineSol so I am only using Ivory Detergent on the tile floors. I am thinking this is your problem because you said it was her thighs as that is the same area it affected my little girl. Once I started using Ivory her problems disappeared. 4. You might want to add amino acids to her diet. I use Salmon Oil but you can find other products in a pet store. Hope this helps.

| If she is itching her skin so bad that the hair is coming off she might have skin allergies. You need to change to a food that doesnt have corn in it. My dog has severe allergies and he is being treated by a vet. He gets meds that he takes plus a spray medicine.

| I really don't like Science Diet! Have you read the ingredients? Ugh! So much meat by-products! that means beaks and legs and intestines, etc. I use Royal Canin--Mini Yorkshire! My dog loves it and it also has Glucosimine and Clonderite (sp) in it for their joints. My dog itched bad with Baby Shampoo! I got a good doggy shampoo and conditioner and she is fine now! Good Luck!
