| New to Yorkie Talk Hi I'm SGMCR. Used to raise German Shepards. Have my first Yorkie, Gidget and love her dearly. A blessing from God. Gidget brought me out of a deep depression after loosing my spouse of 30 years. I did lots of research before deciding on a Yorkie. Still didn't prepare me for unheard of allergies. Please please take note: hopefully her pain and mine will help others. Gidget is a fussy eater and weighs just 4 lbs at 6 months. This has been going on for 2 months. She broke out with a red bumpy rash from her neck down her back, but not underneath. The bumps turned pus. Great appetite, was on soft food. Just now lost her baby teeth. Took her to vet and did a blood test for allergies after a round of antibiotics and special diet. She is allergic to CHICKEN, FLAX SEED, eggs, ragweed, corn pollen. Chicken and flax seed is in most puppy and dog food also FLAX SEED is in many dog foods and treats especially in SCIENCE DIET FOOD and GREENIES. If anyone experiences these symptoms with their puppies get the allergy test. Please. its worth the money. I hope this helps someone. Always take your baby to the vet. I know when it's late at night and your scared any help is appreciated. Just know you're not alone, better informed and take baby to vet and demand the blood allergy test. It tests for everything. Thank you. |

My vet drew blood and sent it to them. The test covers multiple categories. Each category has numerous subs. Here is a list of categories. Grasses Weeds Trees Mites Epithelials Insects Fungi Foods There are well over 100 on this report. Very detailed. Cats and feather mix, fleas, cockroaches, venison, pork, milk, brewer's yeast... It's quite detailed. Hope this helps all in need. Thank you.

I know from taking chicken and flax products out of her diet she has gotten better. Eliminating air pollutants or shampoos used by an incompetent Vet tech who didn't read her chart proves a little more difficult. I will continue my pursuit for answers. My father wants me to take her to an old mountain man vet who has had great holistic success in treating dogs. Will keep you posted as to her progress as this seems to be a prevalent problem in Yorkies. Thank you.

| My boy developed allergies later in his life (13yrs) and I weened him off chicken and grain and he is perfect now! I feed him the wellness limited ingredient salmon and potato dry food for small breeds and I mix in a little of the fresh pet (vital grain free) which is a moist refrigerated food that is also poultry and grain free. He loves it and I mix a little hot water to moisten the kibble bc he has lost 7 teeth in a recent dental. Chicken and grain are a very common allergy and it sometimes takes up to a week or 2 for the symptoms to stop. Best of luck and you have to also make sure the treats have no poultry in them. My boy used to love just a little saltine cracker every now and then but they have grain in them! Simple errors like that can cause a flair up. He can have a little sweet potato or reg white potato in his food and that's about it. |

| Thank You I had no idea when I joined Yorkietalk the show of love, support, advice and concern Gidget and I would receive. I know it's not going to be easy but I'm in it for the long haul with her. Whatever it takes. I really appreciate the response and information that has been given so freely. Thank you so much for all your advice, encouragement, and posts. I'll take all the advice anyone is willing to give. I have learned a lot from this forum already. Again thank you all and God bless you and your babies. |
