| Coughing for 3 weeks!! Help! My 7 year old Yorker female started coughing about 3 weeks ago. It sounded like kennel cough (yes I googled and you tubed) I took her to the vet and was given antibiotics and cough medicine. The cough medicine didn't work so I took her back for an X-ray and blood work. The X-ray showed something pushing on her trachea but the vet wasn't sure what it was. Blood work showed a slight infection and no valley fever. I was told to continue the antibiotics, which I have, but it's been almost 3 weeks and the poor thing still is coughing! (Better some days than others) I am taking her back Monday but would love to have Any feed back from anyone who has gone though this. Also any thoughts on yucca extract or colloidal silver? Ps she is eating, drinking and acting normal, maybe a little less barking |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm, strange. I think I'd be worried about whatever he thought was pushing on her trachea...did he say what he thought it was? Sometimes the vocal cords can develop nodules...maybe that? Does her bark sound hoarse?

| Me too! That's my biggest concern too. My vet said she wasn't sure and her thought was inflammation from valley fever :/ which it wasn't. So I'm definitely going back, it's just I have a hard time waiting for her appointment Yucca is suppose to be a great anti inflammatory so I added that to her diet. Not that I'm thinking it's going to fix it and yes I'll do whatever the vet says too but I want to do what I can naturally to help as well |

YT 500 Club Member | It it her heart pressing on the trachea. How can she not tell what it is? Is it a narrowing of the trachea due to collapse trachea which is very common in Yorkies. It usually shows up at that age. Have you ever noticed her cough in the past like after playing hard or drinking or eating? I had a maltese that had a narrow trachea due to her heart was enlarged and pressed on the trachea causing her to cough. I would want to get to the bottom of what was pressing on the trachea. |

| Umm she sometimes used to cough after drinking water but rarely and never like this. It is close to her heart so I wonder if that's what it is? what did you do for your Maltese? Thank you for sharing that! Obviously I won't do Anything without my vet but I'd like to know what I might be looking at with her. I'm just an anxious Yorkie mommy |

YT 500 Club Member | My maltese always had a weak trachea. Cough a little after water but when she got 8 she coughed more. Found out her heart was enlarged and pressing on her trachea which made her cough because it was weak in the first place. She went on cough medicine and prednisone that did help the cough a little. YOu might want to get his heart checked to see if it is okay. Sometimes dogs cough too when they have a bad heart. Also she was overweight so we put her on a diet which helped too. |

YT 500 Club Member | No problem. I worry so much about my dogs so I know how you feel. I would definately talk to the vet about cough medicine. I know that has helped alot of dogs with coughs. Is he on a cough medicine now? |

| She gave me one and the only reason I'm not sure about using it is because I want to know for sure if she is getting better and it's not just her symptoms being blanketed by the medicine. Once we know what it is I'll be more likely to use it. Right now I've been giving her honey to help her throat |
