potty question My 14 week Luna girl is 90 percent house broke. I'm home all day every day with her so I set an alarm on my phone and take her outside every hour. I do not crate her because she hates her crate and whines non stop. She gets created when I do have to leave and she does fine. We have a very small house right now till our new one gets built. I'm hoping for 100 percent house broke before we move into a brand new house!! Anyhow, small house and fussy dog keeps my daughter who has school and my hubby who works long hours awake and makes them very grumpy with no sleep!! Luna will not wake me up to go outside at night, it's like she is scared of the dark. I have tried using the alarm at night too but it wakes up hubby and when I take her out She freaks out and hides between my legs. She goes most of the time but will pee again as soon as she comes in! She only has accidents in the house at night. Can I start puppy pad training her? Or would that confuse her? I would like to have her pad trained as well as outside trained because Missouri winters can get very cold and snowy. I know I kinda rambled ...sorry. Just trying to figure out my next movie with her before the big move to the new house. Lol

| Trying to train to use both is going to confuse her. Do you have an outside light you can turn on when you go out?

My pup learned both but we started with puppy pad training and she learned to potty outside naturally during our walks. If you want to attempt it, get an expen and confine her to that. Get the pads that are scented for pups. Put her bed and a safe toy and water in there. If you catch her using her potty pad praise her and give her a treat. Eventually you will be able to remove the expen and she will still go to the pad. It works. We live where there is snow and I am NOT going out in that.

I agree that it would be confusing. I think it would be easier if you started with the pee pad first. I trained Lexi to go outside and was fully trained when I tried to introduce her pee pad. I gave up after the first day because I felt so bad confusing her. She would keep running to the door and ringing the bell wondering why I wasn't taking her out. She then just held it for hours and hours after I knew she needed to go until she eventually couldn't hold it anymore and went on the carpet. I could tell she was confused when I wouldn't let her out to go so I decided it wasn't worth it. I'm sure it can be done, but would take a lot of time and patience!

My little 3 mos old, Jeter, has been potty training outside, I take him out every 45 minutes to an hour when he isn't napping. I tried to get him to go on pads, my 8 year old is pad trained, but he wasn't having it. Last week we had a lot of rain which brings out the frogs and I wasn't taking him out after dark because of the danger of him putting one in his mouth. I put down several pads in the places that he's had accidents inside and he went over to the pad and did his business all by himself, I guess he didn't want to go on the pad his big brother used when I tried previously. Now he uses the pads regularly and I still take him out for walks during the day even though he never looks to go outside. I guess each dog is different and maybe he knows to go on the pads because he watches his big brother do it and he does almost everything his big brother does. This makes life easier for me, I can sleep in because he will wake up early to play with his brother and go on the pad until I get up.

I am not sure why I dis not just start out with pads. Air head moment I guess. Yes I have a light but it does not matter. After dark She is just a weirdo and wants no part of it. I know my first post I kind a rambled. I do have a pen. I guess what I was getting at wad could I put her pad and bed together at night in there and train her to use them at night. If she does that would she eventually use them on cold winter days too or all the time if I left pads out? I'm sure the puppy will be the one who will answer that one for me. As I realize all dogs are different. I should have thought about winter when I got her instead of taking her outside and enjoying the beautiful fall weather myself.

I know a lot of dogs have success using the pad if you spray a training aid on the pad. I read plenty of posts about people putting a pad just outside the crate or near the dog's bed. Thankfully it never gets too cold in FL for outside but it definitely rains a lot during rainy season, too much to take Yorkies out especially with poisonous frogs. I feel bad now that he goes right for the pads instead of a walk. I still take him out and I am trying to teach him to ask to go out but I digress he goes to the pads. I am going to look into training him to ring a bell to go out,
