| ![]() Yesterday morning Pippin and I were in the back yard doing yard work. Well, I was working, she was poking her nose through the lattice fence that borders the alley watching for her friends. I see her tail start to wag and her whole body shake like she is seeing someone she know. Well this teenager has a husky and just let him run up the the gate where Pippin is, snarling and snapping at her. He says, "Oh, sorry" and off he goes smoking a joint and walking his dog...Jeez! In the afternoon we are just walking enjoying the sunshine and crossing the street when this mastiff comes galloping up behind me, pushed me out of the way to get to Pippin. He must have been 80 lbs and just wanted her. She is screeching and I'm trying to push him away and get to her to pick her up...all in the middle of the street. The owner comes running down the street in her clicky heels...oh so sorry, he got away from me. Really???? I just glared at her. I told her if you are going to walk an 80lb dog, hold him with two hands....and wear sensible shoes. (I didn't tell her that part, but boy I wanted to!) Why can't these people control their dogs. Thank goodness he wasn't mean, just wanted to get to her, but he could have really hurt her. Poor Pippin who loves every dog, every person, and every walk, just tucked her tail in for the rest of the walk...I was shaking the whole way home. But I took the long way for us both to calm down and we did meet up with friendlier dogs so she wouldn't be afraid of them. Really???? I'm so tired of people not controlling their dogs. Thanks for letting me vent, Sue in Pgh

| ![]() I'm glad you and Pippin are safe. Are you sure you don't live in my neighborhood? Sounds very familiar. ![]() ![]() ![]() Coming up on a full moon too.

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Not too long ago I had 3 large dogs, Chewy ( Pitt mix), Otello ( Rottweiler/Labrador) and Denalli ( Rottweiler/retriever) that I would walk all at once all by myself constantly. I am only 5"1 and 107 lbs. and I never had a problem holding onto the two that I knew I couldn't trust not to hurt another dog. Chewy was so chill and docile ( unless provoked by a bigger dog) and absolutely LOVED small dogs, and I would usually let him walk himself while I kept control of Denalli and Otello. And he would see a small dog and perk up and mosey over to it and even if the dog was being aggressive to him when he approached he would just wag his tail and lay down in front of it with his butt up in the air and tilt his head up. Sometimes people would trip at first. But he'd end up letting that bounce all over his head and just sit there all happy panting. People would trip cause he was part Pitt bull , expecting the worst. But never ever would I allow my rottie mixes out of my control . They were unpredictable . I at least had the mind to recognize that. Now that I've had the experience of being the one with the smaller dog, I get it. I get why they were so panicky. Although I knew chewy would never hurt a small dog no matter how aggressive or spastic it was, I didn't understand that from the other owners perspective all it would take would be one hard shake to kill their baby. But now I get it. Sometimes you gotta point that out cause they think there dog wouldn't, or they think they could split the fight up or whatever. But that's a risk you'd rather not take on a dog you don't know. They may have the assurance of having a dog that has a fighting chance but all it takes is one shake of their head to put ours out for good. I totally get it now. |

| ![]() Phew! So glad that those incidents did not turn into something awful! I don't know what it is with people these days...too many don't watch their kids or their pets.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | ![]() Wow you are lucky. Glad you both are ok. . I really hate when people say their large dogs are harmless. . . Even if the dog will got bite my dog one wrong step can break him. . Also him plowing you over to get to your dog. . He is harmful . . . He could have hurt you ! . .

| ![]() I've calmed down now and I have to say, that it wouldn't have been so bad if I would have seen him come up to us. But he came from behind, I didn't even hear him. I'm only 4ft 8" and couldn't keep him off Pippin. But we are both OK and since then, my eyes are all over the place...watching.

| ![]() I suffered an attack on one of my other small dogs a few years back and have been on pins and needles ever since when I walk my dog. On the advice of a long time member here at YT I started carrying a large pop up umbrella when I take Gracie for a walk. It serves to startle any attacking dog away and also protect Gracie as I try to avert any further entanglement. I would not go out in a neighborhood with other dogs without some kind of defense. There are too many people who have no control of their dogs. I have had people open their front door and their dog just run out at us. You just never know. You can't be too safe. |
