Less than $1,000 I know that there have been a lot of threads on how much you bought your yorkie for. On another thread in the "Yorkies for Sale or Wanted" section today, someone questioned the fact that yorkies are available for less than $1,000. (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...926#post368926) I think that this has to do with the poster's location because prices are generally higher in his or her area. I hate to see people coming here and seeing posts that say yorkies are only priced really expenisively because I know many of our members have gotten yorkies for less than $1,000. I would hate for someone to see this and think this breed is out of his or her financial reach. So, if you have purchased your yorkie for $1,000 or less, please share this, and if possible from where you bought the yorkie. I want members who come here to see that there is a possibility of owning this breed without spending thousands of dollars. Thanks! (For me personally, the first yorkie I seriously looked at was $850 and was from Ohio) |
Im in Indianapolis and got my male yorkie for 600. Females were 900. |
It does depend on location. In today's ad of the Houston Chronicle, you can find yorkies as low as $600 and goes up from there. The Houston Chronicle |
Both My Girls were under a thousand. I actually looked for an average sized yorkie in my searches - the word TINY never entered my vocabulary.... In my search for a yorkie - I had to stay within my means and my goal was HEALTHY....I'm so lucky to have found my girls..... and NO - you shouldn't have to spend thousands to have a beautiful yorkie - I have 2 girls that are just a blast and are both in perfect health..I feel blessed. :) |
My cousin bought a female Yorkie about 8 months ago for $750 in BROOKLYN NY! What a steal that was! :p |
I got both of my females from here in Missouri for 600 each which is very reasonable but the price of living is pretty cheap here compared to other places in the country. I also have known the lady that I got Chloe from for a very long time since I was little. |
I paid 600 for Gidget and 700 for Chloe! :p They are well worth it but that is the going prices around me! I have seen them for 1000 in our paper but not a whole lot are that price! |
|
In the Dallas/Ft Worth paper they start at $600. I paid $900 for one of my girls and $1000 for one of my boys and both have champion bloodlines! I paid just $1300 for Rainbow and she has 39 champions in her bloodline. I have seen pups in TX area for as high as $3500.00 BUT it is absolutely not necessary to pay anywhere near that! |

I think anyone charging those kinds of prices is gouging the consumer....and if someone WANTS to spend that much - let them.... but it sure makes it harder for the average person to afford a yorkie if the prices keep going up. |
I live in Ohio and Yorkies are in the paper anywhere from $600 up. I got mine from a friend of the family so I only paid $300 for both!! $600 total for two *awesome* dogs is a STEAL! :D |
The only way you can pay less than $1,000 in Southern CA is from a Backyard breeder who is breeding her two pets. (they don't look much like Yorkies) Pet shops might sell them at that price too? Don't know, didn't look there. A reasonable price directly from a reputable breeder is $1,500-$2,500. The price range varies depending on sex (males are cheaper) and size (smaller cost more) |
I paid $700.00 for Lucy 1 " RIP baby" and I paid $850.00 fro Lucy Too In NC around my area yorkies go anywhere from $600.00 to 1,200.00 |
I paid 2500 for Princess. But there was one I could have had for 800. Princess was the one who stole my heart, so I paid more for her. I know every State is different. Out here you can find Yorkies from 800 & up. There are so many Yorkies out there waiting to be loved, and they are not all high priced. I would think anyone looking for any breed would put health in front of price, it will save them a lot in the long run. :) |

You can pay less then a $1,000.00 for your puppy. In the Indy paper I see puppies from $500.00 to $1,800.00. Many are not AKC registered, many are 5-7 weeks of age. When you call and ask questions the breeders know nothing about the breed or have them advertised as Teacup, toy and standard. Many have never been to the vet and have no health warranty at all. I had a person call me over the holidays she bought a puppy out of the paper right before Christmas and it died on New Years day. Went thru all the do's and don'ts. She is buying another puppy out of the paper because her family can't wait. She would have been better off to have paid more for that healty baby that had a health warranty. Instead she has the cost of purchasing two puppies and the $1,000.00 that she stated she paid in medical for the dead puppy. Some people never learn. That cheap puppy is not always cheap- may have numerouse health problems and may not be the quality that you are looking for. |

In Dallas, we got Sailor for $700...she was from a local breeder and is very healthy!! We have seen them as high as $1500 and as low as $600. I think you just need to look around and find the yorkie that is right for you!! Some people want to pay more then go ahead, but there are perfect little healthy yorkies that are under $1000!! |
My female yorkie Lacey was $400 in 1992. Just purchased another female yorkie puppy. She was $950. My mom put a deposit down of $450 to hold her until she is old enough to go home. I will pay the other half then because I should have my income tax money by then. We purchased her from a local breeder only a 10 minute drive from our home. The going rate around here for females is $800-900. But, if you go to New Orleans or Baton Rouge, (which are cities an hour away from me) they are mostly asking for at least $1500. Our groomer was trying to breed her two yorkies and was going to charge us $650 for a female. But, pregnancy did not take place because her male was still too young. My mom had an original budget of paying only $650. Until I told her it would be near impossible to get a puppy for that price. Especially a female. We did look into rescues, but they were all out of state. So, I finally talked to my mom about going half and half. And she finally let up. Now, I am just counting the days until Chloe is old enough to go home! |
I think the Northeast is pricy too. I paid $1500 for Brutus and he came from a wonderful breeder. |
I paid £200 for Tino and he is a purebred. I just got him from a breeder over here, who wasnt GREEDY. |

I paid $500 for my male & I'm purchasing a female at the beginning of March. The breeder charges between $1000-$1800 for her females & I'm willing to pay any of that to get the healthiest baby I can! I am in the SE Kansas area. |
I purchased/adopted Bridget at 11 months from a gal in the Bay area (CA) that I found on Craig's List for $1,000. She was already spayed and up to date on her shots. With the exception of a few little teeth problems/expenses, she's been perfectly healthy and an absolute joy every day! |
I paid $400 for my male yorkie, Reuger, in southeast Kansas. His parents were household pets. I got to meet his parents and sister, so I had a good idea what he's going to look like when he gets his full colors. The breeder worked for a vet so I felt confident that he was in good health. I think that I really got a great deal. |
I paid $600 for Zoe' and $700 for Mia. That is about average for a female in Arkansas. Males are generally a little less. Telea, Zoe' and Mia :yorkiesar |
I paid $600 for my Miko, and my cousin paid $800 for her female. Different breeders but they range is anywhere form $600-$1000 her in Florida |
I forgot to say my mom purchased her male "Rocky" for 800.00 and he's 2 years old. We purchased him from a pet store, not knowing what what we know now about most of them. |
