| Akc Vs. Ckc I was talking to this guy today about a puppy for sale and he was telling me that they are registered through CKC. I currently have Harley registered as AKC. I f I purchase this new pup could her registration be switch to an AKC instead. Are there any pros and cons to this "CKC" type of registration? I don't know much about it as I'm learning as I go. Please give me any advise you may have on this matter. Thank you so much. Marlene

| No AKC will not accept CKC dogs. It is on their website. In order to be registered AKC, both parents must be AKC. No other registration is acceptable. |

| The AKC will allow pups to be registered only if both parents are registered with the AKC. |

| AKC is getting stricter...requiring dna etc ....I personally think they are still the most reputable. |

| The above posts are correct. AKC will not register a CKC pup. CKC hasn't been around as long as AKC. CKC will also register the offspring of 2 different purebred dogs. There's always been a debate with one vs. the other, but I personally don't have a problem with them. |

| Does it really matter if the pup is just going to be a pet (not going to breed or show)? |

| There are two CKC registries...Canadian Kennel Club (reputable) and Continental Kennel Club(questionable). I believe the AKC will allow cross registration of Canadian dogs with proper documentation, though I may be wrong. They do NOT recognize Continental registry. |

| thank you i am still doing some research on it. but you are correct the AKC won't let you register them unless they are both already AKC.

| The Canadian Kennel Club is on the exact same level as the American Kennel Club and they both are pretty strick on their requirements. The Continental Kennel Club (from what i'v heard) is pretty easy to register mixed dogs as pure bred because they don't ask for that much info, so their not as good as Canadian Kennel Club or AKC.

CKC (Continental Kennel Club) will allow you to register your AKC papered dog to CKC. In breeding if you have a litter with a CKC/AKA match it can only be registered as CKC!

| My pup can be registered -- but, I have decided not to do it. He will be neutered as soon as he's old enough - and won't be bred or shown. He is a pet! I have always registered my other dogs with AKC -- but why? I get the papers, stuff them in a drawer, and then never look at them again. I know my pup is a purebred - which is what I wanted - but he's a pet to me. I really am only wasting my money to register him. Carol Jean |
