| Nail trimming I successfully trimmed Lexi's nails today for the first time! The vet had done this for free at her puppy visits, but now that she is done with her shots I had to decide to do it myself to take her to the vet to do. Found out it would cost $16 to take her in just for trimming, so I decided to do it myself. I was a little nervous, but I managed to do it without hurting her, which was my biggest fear! My question for all of you.... how often do you trim your pup's nails? |

| Great job! Lexi is a good girl too for letting you do it. I have not needed to trim nails in years because Max and Teddy file them down walking on pavement. However, recently their nails started growing faster. I trimmed Teddy's nails this week. He is easy to work with. Max won't let me do his. In answer to your question of how often: every dog is different. When you hear the 'click click click' on hard floors, it is usually time to trim.

| Hmm granted I've only got my girl for a little over 3 weeks and had only needed to trim her nails once. But by the time I plan to get her to the groomers she'll probably need it again. On average I'd say once a month for her and for my older jacks, they usually get theirs done either every month or two. Lol Maximo that sounds about right for the clicking sound. We can tell where our older dogs are when they walk in the house but our yorkie baby is so silent, she's like a ninja XD and she goes potty very fast that one minute you see nothing and the next turn back, you see ... stuff ><;; lol

| I trim Blazer's nails every Friday, right after his bath. I do it when his nails are nice and soft after his bath, I wrap him in a towel and lay him on his back on my lap, taking his paws out one at a time. I clip them down then file them soft (I hate scratchy nails!) |

That's a good idea to do it right after bath. I also did it with her on her back on my lap. She stays still a lot better that way. That's also the way I trim the hair on her face and feet. | |

She is good girl! My boys won't go on their backs for anything grooming related anymore.
