| Best time to bring puppy home? I'm planning to pick up my puppy in aprox 3 weeks (depends on how he's coming along) and was thinking either a Friday night or Saturday morning. Do you think Saturday morning is better so you have all day to get him acclimated before bed? I work M-F, but I might see if I can work from home for a little bit, at least part of the day so he isn't home alone ALL day. Eventually I will be able to bring him to the office with me, but I want to wait until he's housebroken, has all his shots and seems like he can chill okay so he isn't a big distraction... although let's face it, he is adorable and will be distracting for awhile I share my office with an 11 yo whippet who stays on her bed all day and in other parts of the office there is an Akita, GSD, Border Collie, Wheaten Terrier, and (2) dachshunds with the occassional Rottweiler, Australian Cattle Dog and Shih Tzu... each of which has it's "own space," but they all get on well. Since my buddy will be so small I'm a little nervous about keeping him safe so I think I'll keep him in a soft crate next to my desk. Anyone else have their dog at the office with them? Any pro-tips? |

| He is adorable. I picked up Lily on Saturday morning and it worked out well. The breeder gave me a stuffed pink dog toy that had her old home scent. This was so helpful for bed time! You might ask about that. You are so lucky to get to take your baby to work. I don't get to but would love too!

| He is so cute! I think Friday night or Saturday morning will work about the same depending on how late on Friday you mean. If you would be bringing him home at bedtime then Saturday would probably be better. Puppies tire out pretty quickly but the first night can be a rough one sometimes. Until he is a bit more mature having a snugly pen near your desk would probably be the best idea. It takes a while for the puppy energy to get toned down and the obedience training to kick in and you never know how one of the older dogs would react to him at first. Congratulations on your new baby. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I think that once he has finished his first series of shots it would be best to bring him to work with you for 1/2 day if that is possible. THen he gets a walk at lunch hour and fed, and put in his Xpen at home. This is how I did it with my troup. I also at times when they got older reversed it up, leave at home until lunch, go home, fed walk, and bring them back to work with me. At work I used crates and they worked well. You can zip out for a quick pee break at 2 or 2.5 hours and return to work. Until your yorkie is trained I would not allow him to be free in the office. Most especially as there are so many other dogs there free too. BTW sounds like you work at an awesome place!!

| He is very small (as most Yorkie pups are) and I would not leave him home unattended for at least a couple weeks so that you can be sure hypoglycemia etc...are all NOT a problem. They are fragile pups and even the healthiest pup, if having a problem, can run in to major issues quickly! Just as a precaution be uber careful for a little while! Good luck and Saturday or Friday evening is perfect. Friday evening you could just spend some cuddle time on the couch with your new little guy and then start a fresh new day on Saturday! Ready, set...goooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

| I would be very careful taking your pup around other dogs and places other dogs have been until fully vaccinated. I have been hearing a lot about Parvo it seems. He is very cute!

| This is great feedback, thanks all! Keep it coming! I decided on Saturday morning for pickup as I realized Friday night we'd be fighting rush hour that direction. It's about 50 miles each way as it is. That way, too we can take a little time playing with pup and mom vs snatching him away in the night. I DO work at a fun place We are a retailer of horse and pet health products, geared primarily towards the top-level hunter/jumper equine athlete. I won't be bringing him in until after he's had all of his shots, so more towards 16 weeks or so. Unfortunately half days won't work unless I am going to finish my day at my home office since the drive with traffic can take 45 minutes each way. In the first couple of weeks before he's had all of his shots, the most I'd anticipate he might be alone is 5 - 6 hours. Should I get a petsitter to pop in and check on him? This is my first yorkie and first small breed dog - - I've been reading like a beast, but all of my past experience was with Boxers. @BabyGirl Rosie - - I checked and his breeder is going to send him with a blanket and some toys. |

| Sorry, let me clarify I meant half days wouldn't work with running back and forth... my gameplan is too hopefully work from home for a few days up to maybe a week then go into the office half days and work from home the balance of the day so he isn't home alone for 10 hours. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Yes to getting a pet sitter for 1/2 the day. By that I mean come in at hour 3 or 4, feed and walk. Also you can put up one of those nanny cams, and see how he is doing over the day while you are at work. Maybe over the top for some, but it is just a suggestion. It is such an exciting time for you, Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy.

| What a little cutie. I agree with the others about him being left home alone, a pet sitter would be a great idea. Congratulations!
