Well I posted in another thread about the complication I have with pebbles after her spay. She has a upper resp tract infection and mucus build up fom the tube. Didn't appear with symptoms until a week later. She is slightly better after 5 days of antibiotics and on Monday if she is not totally clear back to vet we go. Hope your baby continues with her good recovery. Complications can and do happen I am a witness to it.

Around 2pm this afternoon Crystal developed bad diarrhea and has continued to pee on the floor. Also for the first time ever in our relationship she bared her teeth at me, when I went to calm her and snaps at me (doesn't bite) when I get near her if she's just woken up. She seems in no pain if I hold her tummy around the incision, but this see-saw behavior really worries me? Her gums are a little dry, but not badly so...

If that were my baby I would be on the phone talking to my vet. I had 2 girls spayed and never did they do this. It's just a phone call, call me over protective, but that is what I am, better to be safe the sorry. Please keep us updated. I am so sorry you and & lil sweet Crystal are going through this.

Martin, did your vet get a urine specimen? If not, When she pees and poops on the floor I would get a specimen of each in a jar or plastic bag and take it to the vet.
I know you find it upsetting that she snapped at you but she may be in a little pain. She has had major surgery and some days the pain if uncomfortable just as in humans. The discomfort after surgery seems to be worse on damp and rainy days.
Call your vet and make him aware of what is going on and if Boris's twin is there make sure you talk to the vet.

We must be psychic I just had a chat with them, while you were posting? Very good response they offered to see her immediately, but knowing she doesn't like cars (and would almost certainly been sick on the 8 mile journey without her mom as comfort) we talked through everything she'd eaten etc. It's perhaps my fault. Since the op she's only eaten boiled chicken and her normal organic breakfast of lamb compound. However this morning, I gave her some strips of ham as a treat around an hour or so ago. The diarrhea was within 30 mins of this feed and it appears inadvertently that I may have caused a reaction in her still unsettled tum. Vet said the teeth baring was a reaction to this general nausea, stress at all the changes around her etc and wanting to be left alone and perhaps also a feeling of shame at not not having reached her little box in time, as she's a very clean little girl normally? She had another little session whilst I was on the phone, but did reach her tray this time. It smells really bad poor little soul, there was some mucous in there as well. The peeing seems almost involuntary, tiny pool and was also after my feeding her ham, so perhaps her bladder is reacting in sympathy to her stomach as well? Advice was to not feed her for 24 hours, then chicken and rice by the tablespoon, every two hours. I have all their numbers, if her condition deteriorates. Her eyes are sharp and clear too.

I'll let her sleep untouched in Mom's room (at work today) away from fussing silly old dad!

Darn, that is sad that she is not feeling well. Vet's advice to withhold food then only feed boiled chicken and rice is common, and very good.

Sorry to say, but ham, bacon, and pork are some of the worst things to feed pups, and can cause pancreatitis. Mucus in the stool is a sign of intestinal distress. I'm sure it will all clear up and is not a result of her surgery. Just have to be careful about what "treats" you share with her. Do make sure she drinks plenty of water though.

Thanks for the advice and good wishes, that's the last ham I ever give her, including perhaps tastes/licks of ice cream, scone, cheese strips etc.

Currently she's got loads of energy and is ravenous for food. Dad is definitely in the 'naughty corner' and she's ignored me all evening - ouch!

Thought I'd give her a short walk on the lead tomorrow, for a change of scene, say about 10 minutes each way?

Glad to hear it wasn't related to her surgery, poor lil girl. It's always best to just call your vet when baby is not acting in her normal fashion. with a recent surgery anything out of the norm contact your vet. I hope by tomorrow she's a bit better. This has been such a horrible experience for all of you. It will get better.
