| Is it ok to be apart from your Yorkie a lot? My Brandy is almost 5. I am now traveling often and leave her with different friends and family members depending on who is available at the time. They all love her and she loves them. I know she is in great care and don't worry about her when I am away. I usually will travel a week or two every other month on average, but when I am home, I am with her 24/7. Last year I left her for a 2 month period of time and she seemed to have no problems. I am going to be traveling again in a few weeks and will be gone for 6 weeks. The friends who will watch her adore her and will take great care of her. Another friend of mine is of the opinion that I should give her to these friends permanently as I travel so much. I am heartbroken at the thought. Is it selfish of me to keep her or should I give her to someone who can spend more time with her?

I don't believe it is selfish of you to keep her, given that she seems to do so very well in her temporary situations. It certainly is not selfish of you to give serious thought to her well-being!!! You are her primary love, and you and she have been together for 5 years, and you obviously love her very much. Why break up this love affair? Yes you travel, but you always come home to her, and I believe that some part of her knows this. Only you can determine what is best for your gal. You are the one that knows her best. Let your heart and mind guide you, and not guilt about having to leave her from time to time. Because you posted this, I think that some part of you has been questioning this lifestyle you have and the dog you love. I can't give you answers or black and white solutions. I do trust that you know the best answer, it is with-in you. All the best

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I think it's awesome that your pup gets along so well with others when you're away -- and doubly awesome that you have friends you trust and who your dogs love. As long as the dog isn't showing any behavior problems being away from you or away from them, I think you have a great setup as is.

| It is fine given the fact that she does well. Consider yourself lunky though. A lot of dogs would not do well with it. No, you are not being selfish as long as she is happy.
